MugShots!

Howdy Everyone!

It's a nice one out there again today. We have had a very mild September so far, and the constant rain we experienced over the summer has been replaced with rather dry conditions, bordering on a drought. Amazingly, the coast got huge rain storms this weekend and we got nary a drop! Anyhow, the drought has made for beautiful weather, but I have had to water the pitiful end-of-the-season remains of my garden nearly every day.

A few years ago I sent out a pile of photographic prints from my camera hobby. They have ended up getting traded around for years, and I have often had people asking me for more. One of my favorite cameras over the years has been the marvelous Fuji Instax which is similar to the old fashioned Polaroid but a little smaller in print size. Recently I decided to try a series of new images and I thought I would see if there was interest in them. The nice thing about instants is that they are so immediate, and the Instax prints will fit in standard baseball card sleeves. The prints can also be name stamped, so I can make these all signed collectible originals by simply taking them to the anvil and lightly striking them.

This first group is a collection of images of my hand made mugs and other ceramics. I have all sorts of subjects here, and some of the images include the steps in making the mugs, some include the finished products. I fooled around with half frame images for a lot of these so that you can see both front and back of the mug, or details such as the interiors. Most of the shots are printed on my favorite Instax Rainbow paper, but I have some black and white images as well. Super fun project! If I have a lot of interest I will make some other series from my collections such as tools, knives, antique cameras and wrist watches.

MugShot Prints will run $9 each plus shipping and the link is below. Thank you so much for stopping in, and for your continued interest and support!

First round is gone, thank you so much! :)

Three More Mugs!

Happy Thursday Folks!

Man oh man, it has been so crazy busy lately. I'm sick of it and just want to crawl back into my shop. Luckily it looks like all my dentist, lawyer, eye doctor, house chores, lawn mowing, air conditioner removal, shopping and socializing agendas will be over tomorrow and I can settle back into some production.

Coming up I will have some unique photo offerings so please stay tuned for those. People have asked me repeatedly for photos and I have come up with some for next week. Also coming will be titanium E115 tools, hopefully by the end of next week.

Today I have a handful of new mugs for you. These are in the usual 13-15 oz range and have a variety of fun images.

Pottery Seconds!

One of the most frustrating things in ceramics is when you put in a whole lot of time and everything is going great, but in the final glaze firing something goes wrong and the glaze isn't perfect. To be honest it was one of the aspects that drew me to metal work 25 years ago and made me give up pottery. With metal you are so much less likely to make mistakes and usually minor problems are correctable.

These three large mugs have small glaze defects where the glaze was thin, or it got bumped when they loaded the kiln, but they are still spectacular. Small discount on them. ;)

Mug #1: 12 oz Kayak Girl with Cat Tails, Wooden Dock and a Frog inside. $55 plus shipping

Three More Mugs

Hi Everyone,

Another stellar day here in New England. I will savor these next few days because there is definitely a crisp feel to the air this morning. Yesterday I was riding around and I spotted a couple of maples that are starting to get a hint of orange on their leaves already, so it won't be long.

Today I have three smaller mugs for you with a short and stocky shape. These are around 9-11 oz so would be great for an evening cocoa with a splash of Kahlua and dollop of whipped cream. For those times when you still want a little something but don't want to be up all night heading for the bathroom, lol..

Four New Mugs!

Howdy Folks,

What a nice weekend it was here. It was cloudy and warm for much of it, but today the sun has returned and temps are super comfortable, even chilly this morning. Typical September!

I built several dozen mugs this summer, but it will take some time to get them all glazed and finished. This is just a handful that I was able to get done in the past week. More will be coming as the weeks go on so stay tuned. :)

We had some trouble at the studio lately with many of our staple glazes running out. Because many old time glaze recipes call for special natural minerals that are mined, some of the mines have run out and now glazes have to be reformulated with the new minerals that are available so that they will melt out correctly and also "fit the ceramic bodies". It is very tricky because there are four different clay bodies at the studio so the glazes need to be able to work with all four of the different clays. Small tweaks in the recipe can make a huge difference in how the glaze interacts with the clay body and it doesn't always work out.

My friend Irene at the studio has been working on making a new line of glazes for us. So far the green and the blue are great, but I did ruin two mugs with another of the reformulated glazes, so not all of them can be trusted yet. As the fall progresses several other glazes she is working on will get worked out and I should be able to get some other colors going. My challenge is that I have all these cool textures and stamps that I'm working with, so I need translucent finishes that will allow you to see highlights of the images through the glassy surface, lighter where the glaze is thinner and darker where it pools up.

These latest mugs are coming out great. I have a good hand building routine down now and I have been able to get more consistent sizes and shapes going with this series. Most of these have three images stamped around the mug, and then a fourth image inside which often gets filled in partially with melted glaze. Bottoms are all textured and are given an iron oxide wash to give contrast and color. They are about 13 oz on average, which is a good size for coffee, and I tend to roll the slabs out thickly so the mugs are quite hefty and will keep the heat in a bit longer. I've been having a blast telling little stories with combinations of images so expect some very interesting and unexpected subjects coming up.

.............................................................................................................................

Mug #1: Cows and CowGirl. Really fun images with a barbed wire border. This piece is slightly smaller at 12 oz... $65 plus shipping:

 Sold!

..............................................................................................................
Mug #2: Aliens and Facehugger! Fun space theme on this one and you know how much I love my aliens... Also a little smaller at about 12 oz. $65 plus shipping:

 Sold!
.............................................................................................................

Mug #3: Tropical Island Shipwreck. I've always loved the idea of being castaway on a tropical island and doing the whole survival thing. This piece has a cool message in a bottle image floating inside. :)  $65 plus shipping:
Sold!

..............................................................................................................
Mug #4: Nature Mug: Mushrooms, Moth, Bird with a Beetle inside. This mug/beer stein is a bit bigger at about 15-16 oz and is on a iron bearing sculpture clay body which acts to darken the glaze a little bit. $70 plus shipping:
Sold! Thank you so much!

Titanium Atwrenches!

Happy Labor Day Weekend Everyone!

Hope you all are getting ready for a nice relaxing weekend ahead. It finally cooled off here and I'm looking forward to much more comfortable days and weeks for the next month or so.

I've been super busy with a zillion things pulling me in multiple directions for the whole month of August. I have managed to squeeze a lot of work in though and am happy to report that there is a nice batch of titanium E115 tools underway. I also just got a batch of Zr E115 tools cut, so those will be coming this fall. I just got done prepping out a batch of timascus Hangman hooks which will be getting stamped. I have a group of Zr mini Hexy beads coming in a month or two. I still have a big batch of steel Prybabies awaiting grinding and those will be coming along this fall as well. And there will no doubt be some odds and ends coming up shortly too...and lastly, for mugs, I am working on getting the first of several dozen through the glaze firing, so I should have a few coming up soon.

Today I have a sweet batch of Titanium Atwrenches for you! I have made these in both steel and Zr in the past but I never got around to titanium. So here we are. These are all stamped with a wide variety of images and they have gorgeous contrasting anodizing effects. A few have light raw bar texturing...I do have a handful of plain ones available if you don't like colors and stamps, just email me. And there are a couple of lefties available as well.

Titanium Atwrenches will run $85 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you are staying cool and getting ready to wind down this weekend!

All gone for today, thanks again folks!

Raw Bar Stubby MiniBars

Happy Dog Days of Summer everyone! It really has been one for the record books here in the northeast, and I cannot remember a summer quite as hot and sticky as this one. We seem to finally have passed the worst of the heat and humidity though, and temps are supposed to be much more seasonable for the coming week. The rains continue regardless, and this summer may end up rivaling last year's soggy summer when the final moisture tallies come in.

Today I have some more Stubby CPM154 Steel MiniBars for you. These were not surface ground like the previous ones, and so they have a light bar finish on them and are a little bit thicker. The Dungeon Black finish works nicely with the subtle raw bar texture. Most of these were stamped with the usual wide variety of images, but there are a dozen or so plain ones without stamps available as well for anyone who cares to email me. And I have some lefties too for you all you southpaws.

Raw Bar Stubbies will run $60 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for popping in this morning and stay cool out there!

All gone, thank you so much folks!

Dungeon Black Steel MiniBars

Howdy folks,

Happy Thursday! It's almost the weekend, and we're still having a heat wave here in the Northeast. It's been a stormy couple of days this week, and now the sun is beating down and turning the place into a steaming jungle. Good day to hunker down indoors and do a sale!

Today I have some Stubby CPM154 Steel MiniBars for you. These little cuties have been finished in hot black oxide and have been heavily distressed, same exact finish as the Tiny Tims that I made this spring. These "instant antiques" are full of character marks and look like they spent the last 50 years in your grandfather's pocket, hehe. All of them are inscribed with a 1 inch scale, and most have been stamped as well with my usual wide variety of stamped images. I do have a handful without stamps, although they still all have the inch scale. And there are some lefties as well for anyone who wants to email me. A second batch with light raw bar texture is also coming shortly.

Dungeon Black MiniBars will run $60 plus shipping and the link is below. As always, I thank you for stopping by today, and hope your weekend is spectacular!

Sold out for today, thank you so much!

Steel Mini Wedgies!

Hi Folks,

Dark and gloomy here today with a light rain falling. We probably have another day or two of this and then the sun will return.

Today I have another tiny batch for you, the remaining 17-4ph stainless steel Mini Wedgies from a couple of years ago. These have a wide variety of stamps as usual, and there are some really cool ones here.

Mini Wedgies will run $85 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for checking in, always appreciate you guys, and have a great week ahead!

All gone, thank you everyone!

Titanium Count Forkulas

Happy Monday! It's another steamy one here as the warmer weather and humidity are still hanging on. I will tackle the lawn a little later as this is the last chance to mow it before the several days of rain that are coming our way.

Still no word on the steel MiniBar tools that are at heat treat, but I expect them to be back either later this week or next week. No other news to report at the moment, but I will be getting my bearings as the week goes on for the next projects.

Today I have a small batch of titanium Count Forkulas for you. This is the version with the cap lifter, and they have a buttery stonewashed finish. A perfect little backup tool for your wallet, these are a handy lunchtime item and they certainly beat the heck out of crappy plastic forks.

Count Forkulas will run $50 each plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for dropping by and I hope your week is a great one!

Sold out, thank you so much!

Timascus Hangman v1.5!

Happy Friday my friends!

Finally, we are getting some relief from the high humidity and heat. What a brutal couple of weeks, and maybe the hottest July that I can remember. Looks like it will be a bit more tolerable over this next week, but I'm sure most of the country continues to bake.

I started working on titanium Atwrenches this week and they are about to get milled. So hopefully I will have those coming in a couple of weeks. The steel Stubby MiniBars are at heat treat and I'm hoping to see those coming back in a week or so. I'm finalizing some new drawings and about to have E115 tools cut in zirconium and perhaps titanium for a late summer/early fall timeframe. I'm also mulling another run of beads although I still have a bunch of the timascus hexy beads to finish.

Today I have some spectacular Timascus Hangmen v1.5 hooks for you! Holy smokes, these are simply stunning. This is just the first round and I still have a bunch to go but I wanted to get some of these out right away. I opted for heat coloring on this group to bring out the brightest purple, gold and blue tones. There are a couple of lefties here if anyone wants to email me, although for this particular item the lefty/righty thing probably doesn't really matter. In any case, these are really nice and I will definitely be putting one on my own key ring.

Timascus Hangman hooks will run $70 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for coming by today and I hope you have a relaxing and cooler weekend ahead!

Sold out for today, thanks so much!

Torched Timascus!

Happy Friday Folks!

Another hot day with high humidity ahead here. Looks like it will be downright swampy for the next week.

Today I have another batch of the new Hexy Beads. These are brushed with a scotchbrite flap wheel, then torch colored. Lots of purple, blue and rusty gold tones.

Torched Hexy Beads will run $50 each and the link is below. Thanks for slipping by, stay cool, and I hope your weekend is great!

All gone, thank you so much!

Timascus Mega Hexy Beads!

Howdy all,

It's a hot and humid time of year here, as it is in most of the US I think. Stay cool and hydrated out there!

Well I finally did it. I made a run of new beads in beautiful Timascus! I wanted a brand new shape around the perimeter that would show off the patterning but would be different from the fluted sides of past batches. I also wanted flats so I could do a name stamp. After messing around for hours I finally ended up going back to the default hex, probably the most pleasing shape you could ask for, and a ready canvas for decoration...You might be tempted to break out a wrench, but these are pure beads with a non threaded 1/4" opening that happen to be 9/16" on the outside.

The new design is similar in size to the Mega fluted beads, so will be instantly familiar in your hand. I experimented with numerous finishes and coloring methods to see which would bring out the best colors and patterns. I settled on one approach for electrical anodizing that creates low luster satin finishes and more subtle patterns, and then a second method that uses a scotchbrite wheel and heat to bring out a different set of colors. Both methods have pros and cons and I found interesting combos in both finishing methods, although they are both limited in different ways.

This first group is the electric group. One advantage here is that I can do my traditional C-51 neutral color for those who are allergic to bright colors (haha, just email me if you want the plain C-51 look) but who still want to see the patterning in the material. Electrical anodizing is also much easier to control and has a broader range of colors possible. The exception would be blue (pictures look blue but it is more of a green) which proved quite elusive in the higher voltage ranges which is where the best patterns were to be found.

Timascus Hexy Megas will run $50 each plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for poking your nose in today, and I hope you stay cool this week!

All gone for today, thank you so much!

Titanium MikroStiks

Hi Everyone,

Hope you had a lovely 4th of July week! It was nice here, rather warm of course, and we had some storms come through. One lightning bolt hit a tree across the street while we were at the window. No damage, but that was wild to see it so close and very fitting considering the holiday.

Several projects that have been simmering for a while are about to come to a boil. Later this week I will have some brand new timascus beads for you, and they are gorgeous! Coming in a week or two will be timascus Hangman v1.5 hooks as well. I am about to revisit an older design, the E115 tool, and those are going to be cut in both zirconium and titanium. Also, the Atwrench will be making a comeback, but in titanium this time. I have more Count Sporkulas coming, about to be cut this week...that batch of steel Stubby MiniBars is finally done and ready to send to heat treat today. And, I finally started grinding the 3v steel Prybabies which will be coming later this summer. So, tons of stuff on the way in the coming weeks and months, so please stay tuned!

Today I have a small batch of titanium MikroStiks for you. These are the same as the last group from the winter and feature some beautiful contrast anodizing and a wide variety of stamps. Excellent for rope and knot work, and a handy little item for cleaning, light prying and scraping tasks. There is one without stamps and has no anodizing if anyone wants to email me for it.

Ti MikroStiks will run $65 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for swinging by today and have a great week!

All gone, thank you so much!

Original Titanium Count Sporkulas

Happy Thursday!

We're really having a treat here for the next two days. Absolutely perfect temps in the 70's and 80's. I'll be  going out this afternoon for some yard and garden work for sure.

Today I have another micro batch for you. These are some Original Titanium Count Sporkulas that I had cut more than a decade ago. They have a plain stonewashed finish, and there is one with anodizing if anyone wants to email for it. I also have a half dozen of these in stainless steel.

Original Count Sporkulas will run $60 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for dropping by as always, and I hope you have a great upcoming weekend.

Titanium ones are sold out, thank you!

Titanium Bookies

Hi Folks,

I'm back again...another nice warm summer day out there. We're due for yet another rain storm tonight which will no doubt make the slugs very happy out in my garden.

I ran across a couple dozen of these old titanium Bookies recently and thought I would decorate them with some stamps. These thin tools are unsharpened and make for a cool old fashioned bookmark. They have a smooth stonewashed finish on them and my usual wide variety of stamped images.

Titanium Bookies will run $65 plus shipping and the purchase link is below. Thanks for checking in today, and hope you're staying cool!

Gone in a flash, thank you so much!

Stamped Timascus A51 Larva Tools!

Howdy Folks,

Well, it's an absolutely glorious summer day shaping up out there. I have oodles of things to do today around the house, and a number of errands to run later, so I will do a small sale this morning.

Today I have the last of the Timascus Larva tools with A51 grinds and torch coloring. These are all stamped and have my usual wide variety of images, although they are the smaller stamps because of the limited real estate on these tiny tools. There are only 10 of these...

Stamped Timascus Larvae will run $80 each and the link is below. Thanks as always for dropping by, and hopefully your week is going as great as mine!

All gone, thank you again my friends!

Generation 3 TightWads

Hi Everyone,

Well it's another warm and muggy day here in New England with storm in the forecast. We're having a very nice spring for sure and my garden is absolutely thriving. I expect we will see a very hot summer coming up though, and they are predicting a tough hurricane season ahead.

I've been chipping away at the various projects. I got the rest of the timascus Larva tools ground and tumbled out, now just need to give them final color treatments. I finally started grinding the long awaited steel MiniBars and those should be ready to send to heat treat later next week. I will tackle steel Prybabies after those are done, and I have a big batch of timascus Tombstones to start on as well. I'm also contemplating making another batch of titanium Count Sporkulas and perhaps one more timascus item this summer, to be decided.

Today I have some cool new titanium Generation 3 TightWads for you. These have been waiting for quite some time for me to get around to finishing them up and I have actually been working on them for weeks. They are slow going because they like to stick together in the tumblers, so I just do a handful at a time and usually combine them with other items. Even then, many need to be tumbled over and over until they are right...the batch today is titanium but a huge batch of the same design in 301 half hard stainless steel  is also awaiting finishing for later this year.

At any rate, these are fully loaded with features. First is enhanced deep side grips which also allow for easy access to your cards and cash. Next we have the ubiquitous cap lifter and 5/16 wrench combo, as well as 1/2" and 9/16" wrench openings. Then there is a 8-11mm wrench set. Finally, there is a central slot and you might wonder what that is for. :) When I designed these I was looking for a way to add even more features and I realized that a slot would allow for insertion of SAK toothpick, tweezers or pen. This works very well, and you can actually add two tools back to back if you want.

Now, what I did not anticipate was that the bands might be compromised if they are pierced, and many people seem to go through bands quicker than I thought. So, I am going to leave the bands unpierced and let you DIY if you want to try the SAK tool feature. I recommend using a leather punch and using the smallest hole punch size if you choose to do it. One more thing, I don't have an endless supply of bands, but the TightWads use a standard Youth (not adult!) size wrist band, so you can easily get as many as you need from any online wrist band maker. They are customizable too.

Lastly, the TightWads are all stamped with a wide variety of images!

Gen 3 TightWads will run $70 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for popping in today and have a great weekend ahead!

All gone for now, thank you so much!

Timascus A51 Larva Tools!

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I hope you all had a great long weekend. It was gorgeous here right up until yesterday when we got 2 inches of rain dumped on us. It's a steamy jungle out there this morning.

I've been chugging along here and have been super busy. In addition to the shop projects, we just had a new roof put on last week, and lots of other home projects large and small. Most of it is done though, so looks like I can finally put some significant time in down in the shop without the endless distractions...I have a pile of new Generation 2 TightWads ready for packaging. I'm finally ready to finish the grinding of steel MiniBars. And I have a big batch of timascus Tombstones that I will be starting on soon.

Today I have the first wave of Timascus Larva tools with A51 grinds ready to go. These are super cute little guys, and at a diminutive 1.75 inches long, fans of my smallest tools will really enjoy them. Most of them are heat colored but I have a couple with electrical anodizing (less distinct patterning) if anyone wants to email me for them. Also a couple with stamps, although I elected to forego the stamps on most of these and let the pattern speak for itself on the small space. The Atwood stamp is on the back side.

There are quite a few more of these coming in the next few weeks as I make my way through the batch so no worries if you miss out today. They will run $75 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for coming by today, and for your endless patience!

Sold out for today, thank you so much!

Last of the A51 Timascus Poltergeists!

Happy Friday Everyone,

It's a bit cloudy here today, but all in all it has been a lovely couple of weeks. We seem to finally be past the freezing nights and I have cautiously been planting out my peppers, as well as some squash and cucumber plants, although I do cover them at night. The tomatoes that I started from seed are almost big enough to put outside and will be going into the ground next week.

Projects have been limping along. This is one of those periods where things are endlessly delayed and many family and home responsibilities keep distracting me. Our roof will be getting replaced in a week or two and most of the routine seasonal home maintenance stuff is falling on my shoulders this year. I have cut down numerous small trees and cleared a ton of brush this spring too. On the shop front, my long time waterjet guy retired, so I've been scrambling to figure out how to get new parts cut. I continue to work on stuff in the shop though and I am almost done with the first batch of the little Timascus Larva tools which will be coming next week. I also have some more ti TightWads underway and some misc smaller batch items.

Today I have the last tranche of Timascus Mini Poltergeists for you. These have wild Area 51 style grinds and gorgeous finishes. They are torch colored like the previous ones, but I do have two with  electrical anodized rainbow finishes if anyone wants to email me for them. And there is one lefty remaining. Don't be afraid to carry and use these little guys as the finish is very durable. I opened numerous paint cans last week with mine and there is not a mark on it.

Timascus Mini Poltergeists will run $99 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks for popping in today and I hope you have a glorious spring weekend ahead!

Sold Out, thank you so much!
