Working working working...

The past few days I have been working on stuff like a lunatic. There is a ton of stuff in progress but as usual it's taking forever to get it finished. The Shiner keychain tool is under way and the MicroSpuds are almost ready to send to heat treat. In addition to those I have SuperBugs cut and ready to start grinding later this week. Also have various prototypes that I'm refining and testing so there is much on the horizon even if it seems very slow right now.

Here's a sneak peak at the Shiner proto:

Why call it the Shiner? Well, for those of you who are not fishermen, shiners are also known as minnows. They are a favorite bait fish for the fresh water fisherman who prefers to use live bait over artifical lures. I guess I could also call these the SS Minnows. :)

Awesome! Thanks for the update! ;)

Shiner looks great. Please make lots of Super Bugs!

Peter Atwood said...

You bet! The SuperBug batch is huge.

BTW, the Shiner will have much bigger O rings on it.

Looking great! How much you thinking these will cost? Any in titanium (plz)?

Peter Atwood said...

These are all in steel and will be very reasonably priced. I have other stuff coming in ti shortly.

Rick said...

Just out of curiosity, does the double tumbled titanium pieces come out as nice and smooth as the s30 pieces? Does that make any sense?

Peter Atwood said...

I have not done any double tumbled ti stuff yet.

Rick said...

I missed the Ti Atwrenchs and thought maybe they had been doubled tumbled. Thanks! :)

Wow peter ... the inventing never stops! Love it! RyanMalpiede

Oh No. Peter said shortly, that is enough to put people on 24 hour vigil.

Maybe, those who go fishing at dawn or night would appreciate a Glo-Shiner which has a glow eye, glow dot on the neck, glow O-ring, etc.

Jeff Pulice said...

that is nice, in a 'I'd actually carry that one' way. I'm ashamed to say, I haven't carried either of my Atwoods yet- I just sit and fondle them, chuckling maniacally.
The Shiner might replace the Raker Damascus prybar I carry: more utility and I like the look of that eye. What size is the hex opening in the middle?

phoenix stu said...

Wow, that is indeed cool Peter. I will have to keep my eye out for that. Great work as always. Looking forward to this and a Super Bug :D :D

SS Minnow is perfect...Ginger and Maryanne agree!

Matt said...

Where can I see this superbug?

Peter Atwood said...

SuperBug is at the bottom of this page, just scroll down.

Thank you very much!

Nice and funny design. The O-rings give a better grip - for what? - A one size screwdriver and a bottle opener. All your former ideas about O-rings for holding something usefull in a neat manner is somehow reduced to garnish. I prefer your rugged and refined every-part-has-a-purpose tools.

I like the Shiner - would look great in damascus! - Can have one to match my odins eye keyton please?

The idea is for a simple keychain handle w/bottle opener tool, not a super complicated thing. And I wanted something less expensive because the economy sucks and people don't necessarily have a lot of money to spend. So while I have many other interesting designs and some which are more functional I think there are some compelling reasons to make some basic items along this line. Also, I like fish. :D

Put a treble hook on the back and I'll bet a striper would hit it :)

chainring said...

I don't have an atwood yet :( but I'm hoping to change that soon!!! Those are looking pretty cool.

Anonymous said...

I'm certain a bluefish or a striper would hit it! We should have a contest, first one to catch a fish with a Shiner wins something...I bet largemouth bass would take a shot at it too for our landlocked Adwoodites! BTW Peter, good observation regarding your output and "our current state of economic affairs"!

I just stumbled across your site by accident. WOW!! Im so glad I did!

I have been drooling over the G3 Prybaby!!

I must have one!!

Anonymous said...

Any news on the rulers?

Peter Atwood said...

New batch of G3 Prybabies in a month or two but first a bunch of these new projects.

I'm slowly working on the rulers. Emphasis on slow...

Alexander Woolfson said...

Peter, any idea when the shiners and superbugs will make an appearance?...I'm desperate here!

Peter Atwood said...

Alexander, probably next week for the Shiners, week following for the MicroSpud Wrenches, week after that for SuperBugs.

I just got done grinding the MicroSpuds this morning and am starting on the SuperBugs this afternoon.

Thanks for the update Peter, they do wonders for my productivity!

phoenix stu said...

Thanks for the update Peter and thank you again as always for the hard work, time and efforts. :D Truly appreciated.

oh man! gone for 2 weeks and i didnt miss anything? wow! its a shame im gone for a lot longer very soon. im gonna miss the rulers! damn the navy! but keep up the awesome work! in some months ill be back looking for some more good stuff! ill just keep worrying my ring thing... haha

Peter Atwood said...

Oh the dry spell will be coming to an end pretty soon. I was working on the rulers today and also the Fixer blades are underway. And the SuperBugs are almost ready to go out to tumble. So even though it is taking forever to get things rolling there is so much in the pipeline right now that it's ridiculous.

Matt said...

so rulers will be out within 2 weeks?

Take care.

Anonymous said...

Fixer blades? sounds interesting... couldn't find any info on the blog about these. Did i miss something or is this double top secret?

thanks!

Fixers will be great...Please don't be shy on making alot of these!!...Of course in all your favorite flavors!

Rick said...

I like ridiculous! :P

I'm really excited for all the stuff you are releasing in the next several weeks. :)

Unknown said...

Wow that fixer looks more like a Kiri-Atwoodashi!

Very cool....looking forward to all your new goodies Peter!

Matthew Harris said...

Peter how will one get leverage on the fixer when using the wrench feature. Won't the blade on one end limit the force that is usable? Are you going to be providing a nice Kydex with those?

Peter Atwood said...

Oh c'mon, you can't seriously think I'd offer this without a sheath... Of course it has a sheath! :D

When in the sheath you can get a fair amount of torque on the wrenches. I'll be experimenting with the sheaths to get the best possible fit. Obviously you will not be able to put quite as much force on these as a Prybaby G3 for instance but it is still quite usable. The wrench opening also lightens the knife and provides for an excellent grip.

spiderantenna said...

Hey Peter, would you say that the G3 Prybabys will be about the same price? The G3 is my favorite Atwood tool and I am really glad that I will have a a chance to get one. Thank you.

Peter Atwood said...

I do not have G3 Prybabies in progress at the moment. I do plan to do another batch later this spring and yes they will be the same price as before.

Peter Atwood said...

That picture is from the Museum Blog and is from 6-8 months ago. I do not have any G3 Prybabies in the works or in stock right now. I only posted it to show what the Fixer knife will look like and that is just the original drawing done last summer. Hope that reduces the confusion... :)

Unknown said...

Any chance you can do another run of the Spanner Babies, in TI. :^)

Peter Atwood said...

None whatsoever. :P

Nah, I'm all done with spanners I think. That was so two-three years ago...honestly I made an awful lot of them in both steel, ti and flat titanium. I hear rumors that another maker will be doing a dedicated spanner tool of a brand new design in the future though. ;)

T.Duke said...

Any idea when the microspuds are gonna come out?

Rick said...

I can smell them Shiners clear out west. Must be getting close! :D

Peter Atwood said...

Yes, MicroSpuds will be coming right after Shiners. Then SuperBugs and probably a couple batches of other stuff in between.

bltkmt said...

"Shiner" is an appropriate name, as that is what my wife will give me when I buy one...thanks, I'll be here all week! Please tip your waitresses!

Anonymous said...

I'll break the silence!! Peter, feed the people! Do you have tentative release dates yet? Did someone chain you to your grinder?

Take it easy!

Peter Atwood said...

Hehe, the only reason I have not put out a real update in a bit is because I still do not know for sure of the next release date. I think it will be Saturday but I honestly do not know when I will get the Shiners back from heat treat. Should be by Friday if all goes well but I'm just not sure yet. Also have the shot glasses starting to run I think today but once again, not sure yet.

Anonymous said...

Perfectly OK, longer downtimes mean bigger batches and better stuff. Oh and I thought I was up on everything in the pipes, then you casually drop something about shot glasses! What a dirty dog!

Thanks Peter

enki said...

I really admire all your work Peter, and soon I finally own one!

Can't wait :)

phoenix stu said...

Shot glasses?!? Sneaky indeed. I love it :D

Thanks peter

Unknown said...

Surely you guys didn't forget about the Atwood Drinking Tools!!!!! :-D

beardy said...

Hey Peter, are the shot glasses the same design you previewed a few years ago, or something new?

I would love to get my hands on one!

Unknown said...

Jamesons is ready and waiting Peter....and I'm damn thirsty ;)
