Web and Email Trouble

The Atwoodknives website is just having a heck of a time lately. My web host is having major problems with their server for some reason and for the past week it comes and goes frequently throughout the day. I have to call them every couple of hours it seems to get them to reset the server. This is really starting to tick me off and I'm afraid I've been losing some email lately too as this is also my email server. So please bear with me if you can. If they do not get it fixed soon I may be forced to move the site to another server and that will mean a ton of down time and a bunch of work. So I'm trying to put it off and see if the problems will resolve but it seems to be getting worse every day....

Yeah, your site is down right now. Times out. Last time it was down, I missed out on yet another sale. :(

What? Move servers? Down time? Time away from making cool stuff? Nooooooooooooo!

I'm sure we are not helping the situation by refreshing our browsers constantly throughout the day.

For everyones sake, I hope you are able to get the problem resolved quickly and painlessly.

Looking forward to some tools/knives soon!

I've also noticed this fairly frequently. Hopefully your host gets their act together and takes care of the problem.

Hey Peter,

that stinks about the server problem hopefully they can resolve it quickly & completely.

I know if you have to change providers it will be a huge headache for you & will take up tons of your valuable time & stuff could get lost in the changeover that would be bad.

Keep up the good work I appreciate it & all your effort.

Thanks, George

I've noticed a few times the site being down as well.Hope everything works itself out. Good luck with that.

yup yup. . .I too, have noticed plenty of downtime on your site. Maybe everyone constantly refreshing is causing a sort of 'DOS' attack, by accident? lol

I would highly recommend 'icdsoft.com' for hosting - I have been using them for years on like a half dozen sites now with nary a problem - I don't think we have EVER had any outages. They can handle huge amounts of bandwidth and even periodically give us more server space for free, too.

Good luck with the tech stuff - and I am anxiously awaiting the new Atwood blade thingy! ;)

Make sure you back up your master folder from your current website using a FTP client if you have not already done so.

Hope everything smoothes out for you.

Good luck Peter. Hope things get well soon. I too dislike unstable systems.

I have no idea who your host is, but you should check out hostmysite.com's linux hosting plans. Cheap, and I've had only two bouts of downtime in five years.

It looks like your site has been down for over a day now; that or I've just managed to catch all the intermittent down times it's experiencing. Hope everything is getting worked out. I know how frustrating it is to have issues like this. Ahile back my host went "belly up" over night and I lost my entire website. I'm still trying to recover my URL.

So far so good this week. We'll see how it goes over the next few days but it is possible they have the problem fixed. I sure hope so...

I just read an interesting article that I think you also read.

Lee- The link is a bit problematic to get to work. For those wanting to read the article, Google "1,000 True Fans". It is a piece about what artists need to do to succeed financially - interesting but rather dry, just mho.

He puts them up at various times -- thank goodness or I wouldn't have been able to buy any. You're just going to have to be patient and catch it at the right time like the rest of us do.

Was there another sale today? Under available tools there showed Flat Titanium Gasbaby Bead Blasted and bugbites but both OOS..:(

Peter Atwood said...

No there was not. I'm grinding right now but will have some flat ti gasbabies done by this weekend I think.

nice to see a weekend sale, when people that work for a living have a chance to buy a tool...

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the flat ti gasbabies, Peter. You must have made a large lot of them!

Yes, this batch was the largest I have ever made. And I have even a larger amount of them coming in the next few days. I am bound and determined to keep just ONE thing on the site.. :D Hehe, also a large batch of regular steel ones are coming in a few days.

this has to be a record for anything being available for such a long time period! A knife sale like this on a weekend would be the cats meow:)- The Chants start quiet at first and then becomes louder and louder, Knife!Knife!Knife! Knife!Knife! Now it sounds like a Tibetan Tantra,, can i get an Amen???

Just yesterday I finished two full days of grinding a large batch of edged tools. It will take a few weeks though before they are through heat treat and tumbling and then sheaths and sharpening. I'm sending the whole batch out to have them professionally vacuum furnace heat treated including cryo quench and then another well known knifemaker is helping me out with the sheaths. It will take time so please be patient.
