I know, it's a novel idea but I think I'm not going to do a darned thing this weekend except drink beer, watch football and have some good food. :)
See you all on Monday and I swear I WILL be getting more sheaths done next week for the few wharncliffe Boogers that I have finished and for the 1 dozen SOPTHings. I have a few more RingThings coming as well. Also a handful of MSOPTHings will be coming in about two weeks but they haven't even been cord wrapped yet so they are further out.

sounds like a plan. enjoy!!
I hope I am one of the lucky dozen that can get a SOPT.
Have a good weekend. :)

That's a dozen SOPTHings...I have a few more than that in the minis.
Woot for lots of minis. :)
And I'm still aiming for those SOPT that I've been after for a while. Good to see there's another chance for them again. :)
Thanks Peter!

Ahhh how I dream of a small booger like the Atwood blade.
Tradition has it that Lord Wharncliffe wanted a small pocket knife with a thick strong blade. The result was a knife that was not only a whittler pocket knife, but one that could be really leant on hard without danger of it breaking. A wood splitter. Once you have handled a knife with a real Wharncliffe blade, then you will appreciate the meaning of this. It is a beast of a blade, even though it may be quite short.
Have a nice weekend. You certainly deserve it. Matter of fact, I think I'll have a cold 807 myself. Cheers!
Alright... Peter!! Rest well taken =) You,ve been cranking out tools like a machine!! lol
well deserved. i hope you team wins.

Thanks! Yeah, the Pats should take of Miami, at least I hope so. :)
I am gonna join in a have some beers also ;-)
Peter, have a great weekend and enjoy the feel of glass in your hands instead of steel.
But you didn't answer the most important question. What tool do you use to open a beer?
beer, football, and good food. What time should I be there?have a good one Peter.
It's about damn time!! :-D
To anonymous--"his fingers... it's a pull tab." Ha-ha.
Enjoy your weekend Peter, I know I will!

Enjoy the time off Peter. Go Pats!
Enjoy the break, Peter.
Good for you! Enjoy the time off!
The whole weekend??? Who do you think you are buster? Get back in that shop and crank out our tools! And another thing--why do you post at the time of day you do? And why do you--just kidding. While 98 per cent of your fan base is great, I just wondered what it would be like to be one of the 2%. Now I know--I think. Great site--see ya down the road. Oh, and the rest of you folks--lighten up (including me).
So Peter how ridiculous was that game? Being from Miami, and not a Dolphins fan, I automatically put my money on the Patriots. A bit mind blowing that the defeated Dolphins ended the 21 win streaks. Cowboys are doing well so far so I'm happy. Hope that didnt ruin you weekend.
Peter - How about a trade:
My superior genetics first-born-son for a SOPT
Just because you take the weekend off is no excuse for me to stop hitting reload on this blog site of yours. It's true that now with the rss stuff I'll get a vibrate on my phone if you post anything, and that's stripped much of the meaning and purpose from my obsessive reloading. But that doesn't stop me any more than knowing you won't be posting anything new for a couple of days. logic, pfah. Where's my reload button....
To anonymous: OK, I must be slow on the uptake but I have the RSS feed and the phone notification is something I must have missed. Can you enlighten me? Thank you. As is, I have to click my bookmarks, then Google Reader to see any new stuff. Thx again.
waykno,
all joking aside, I learned everything I know about rss from this link:
http://atwoodknives.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-sign-up-for-rss-feed.html
Waykno,
Use Pingie - http://www.pingie.com/beta/index.php to send you an email or SMS (in the US) of an update to the site.
Signup and add the RSS feeds you want to watch. It has worked a treat for me via email as I'm not US based.
Just waiting for the next alert with this weeks goodies...
If you already have Yahoo, you an also use "Yahoo Alerts" to send the RSS feed to your phone and/or email.
With the weather we are supposed to have this week you should take a few more days off.
Although I bet if you could plot a graph of number of blog hits a day it would show it steadily increases until you release something and then it drops back down as the anticipation subsides.
I am sure your grinding away and working hard even if you haven't listed anything though.
Quick someone call 911!!! Peter got lost or drank too many beers and thinks it is still the weekend. If you wish to join the search party reply here________.
Knives take friggin FOREVER! :D I'm remembering why I like tools so much more. It's slow going on the sheaths and finishing steps guys...
On another note, I had a couple of sample pieces DLC coated recently and I've prepared a rather large and varied group of items to send out this week to have done up. You're gonna like the results I guarantee.... :)
I love the DLC coating and would love to see that on a msopt, ringthing or sharkbite. I saw the pics on your museum site and they look very nice, good job Peter.
B Gibson
please put those on sale ~3am, so I can have a chance....
:P
DLC coating! I can't wait.
If we can't seem to badger you into making ridiculous amounts of damascus or talonite, dlc is a very cool idea.
And it's a short step from there to getting you to put AlTiN on your Ti items! ;)
Serously though, can't wait to see Atwood DLC!
thanks for the update Peter! Do you know how many sopthings and boogers will be for sale?
hey Peter,
Now that you're making blades again...
what're the chances we'll see even a few Ghouls or Goblins for Halloween? Yeah, I know it's probably a long shot, but just imagine how cool the Tanto Goblin with DLC and orange cord wrap would look around Halloween. That's just too good to pass up, right?
(well, at least it was too good a thought to pass up mentioning, anyway.)
There weren't any Ghouls or Goblins left unfortunately...I'm still trying to get stuff done that has been cut and sitting on the shelves for two years or even longer in some cases. The lesson is that knives are slow so I shouldn't get so ambitious and start so many. After talking with some other makers though it's obvious that I'm not the only one with piles of half finished stuff laying around for years at a time... :D
I'm stroking the slide on my Kahr PM9 right now wishing it was an Atwood with a DLC coating. How about some pics? :)
What is the DLC coating?
Ahh, sorry to hear it's taking so much effort on the knives.
On the bright side, at least when you clean up your shop it provides some extra income?
Just curious, aside from sheaths, why do blades take so much more effort than other tools?
Diamond Like Carbon is a super hard and nearly unscratchable black coating. It takes on the characteristics of whatever is underneath it so if the item is shiny the DLC is shiny. If it's blasted then the item is matte. It's wicked cool stuff. A razor blade skates right of it. :)
reading material for the other anonymous...

Honestly it's all the cleaning, sorting, cord wrapping, fussing, deciding if it's good enough to sell or if it goes into the redo pile, touching up scratches and blemishes, making the sheaths and sharpening. What a pain in the ass they are... Even odious chores such as cleaning the shop start looking good next to finishing knives. :D :p
Take Boogers for instance. This batch has been nearly finished since Spring but then I decided that the finish wasn't good enough so I lightly blasted them. Then I decided that the blasted surface was going to show scratches from the sheaths so they went back for retumbling. Now I'm finding a few grinding marks that didn't come out in the last tumble. So a portion of them just got touched up and now reblasted and they are headed to get DLC coated. It's endless. And I still have to finish the sheaths. We're only talking two dozen pieces but they have been in various stages of completion for almost two years.
wow. sounds like a pain. sorry to hear that.
on the other hand....
Two dozen DLC'd boogers!
Likely to be among the last ones for awhile!
Extra care and finishing work meticulously performed by Peter Atwood's own hands!
Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!
More than two years in the making!
err... wait. no, what I meant to say was...
Nothing to see here folks. may as well turn off your rss for awhile. SOPT and MSOPT's in the future, so just wait for those. yeah. Elvis has left the building. No boogers to see here. move along.
;)
(ok, I'll shut up now and stop distracting Peter from "cleaning his shop".
mmmm.... dlc atwood goodness.... )
Actually only 5 DLC Boogers, the rest are stonewashed. :)
I hate to say this but I've never been a fan of coated blades. Even DLC. True, it's hard as hard can be... but I've seen it scuff with use... Really though, I just like the look of STEEL... That being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing these DLC Atwoods... Always changing stuff up, keeping us on our toes... cool
I've had mixed feeling about coatings over the years myself. But I've always wanted to try DLC which is supposed to be one of the very hardest, will not flake off, provides a significant increase in corrosion resistance and is very difficult to scratch. For example, on the 3V BOBlades I sent out it will be ideal and anything with cord wrap for that matter since water can get trapped under it.
Sounds like some good stuff will be coming out soon!
I'm just hoping for a DLC Booger or a SOPThing now.
Doubt I'll get one though, I never do. : (
maybe a 2 piece design (such as the crkt kiss/peck) would be ideal for maintaining...
i always want a blade in a folder form :P
those 5 DLC pieces could be out @4am hehe
4Am Eastern Time? :P
yessss, i take that 4am as a promise...hehe
i be up for sure, day time too busy to catch your blades :P
please peter not too early give us on the west cost a chance, no rss thing here to notify
I don't mind what time but a heads up a few hours in advance would be good so I can make sure my phone is getting email 24/7 when we're on high alert.
I don't mind being woken up for a dlc booger !
4am eastern? sure, no problem. being on the west coast, that's not even past my bedtime. ;)
I'll take 4 Pm eastern! Or 9 am edt - hey us eastern time zone folks deserve a fair shake :)
WOW 54 comments, must be Atwood blade month around here:) Peter they might be a pain in the butt, but look at how many Atwood crazies you have made happy with your knives!!! Will there be any damascus units in the future??? Will you do any in your antique finish??? Love the satin and antique look, they look and feel so refined:) Thanks for all your hard work!
Ed
is 4am yet?
ok, must not pass out....
I think the BOBlades would be an excellent knife/tool to have the DLC coating. I'm glad you have decided to try it out. :D
Any examples of some DLC pieces ?
I can't spot any on the site.
http://atwoodmuseum.blogspot.com/
This will take you to some nice pics. Don't slobber on your screen!!!!
B Gibson
effin drool!!! i need one of those dlc msopt's for my birthday Peter!! man i am turning 36 and that would just make me feel so much better about entering my late 30's!!
You should take every weekend off. Will still be here regardless
To Todd, THartley, and anonymous: thank you for your feedback. To anonymous: you write more than Mickey Spillane--you shouldn't need RSS as you have to be on this site most all day anyway--ha. I'm kidding. Thanks again.
I suspect anonymous uses some ghost writers.
either that or I've got split personalities that I'm not aware of. which is fine, as long as they share their atwood stash with me...
am i the only one here w/o rss feed? competition is getting tough LOL
Thanks for the link. Now we're all going to be hassling Peter for some "old stuff"
Spiff, you don't need anything special for the feed. Use Pingie & your email, or a feed reader for your browser - I'm a big Google Reader fan myself.
nope.
there's one other fellow without rss.
at least there was... now where did he go?...
