Howdy Folks,
Hope your Christmas was a fun one! We had a nice time with our family and everyone managed to get home safely just before all the snow hit and the flights were canceled.
Anyhow, I'm scrambling to get a few more sales ready before the end of the year. I'll have to shut down for a few days at New Years to catch up on paperwork and do my inventory stuff...not looking forward to that but it has to be done every year. It will be a good time to take a few days off as well and just plain take it easy.
Well today I have the end of the copper 5 flute Lanslide batch finished up. I probably won't be doing these again so this will be it for them. I will have some bronze 5 flute ones coming up next though and eventually some pure white virgin teflon ones although those might not be done until January. Lots of cool stuff is coming though so stay tuned. :)
Sold out, thanks again!

Merry Christmas!
I was hoping to sneak one more sale in before Christmas but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Those last minute holiday preparations have taken over. So I just want to say THANK YOU to all my friends out there! I can't believe how wonderful these last few years have been and I'm deeply appreciative for all of you and for all that you have done for me.
So to everyone out there the world over, I wish you a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

Larva Tools
Hello Folks,
It's shaping up to be a busy week. I probably won't be able to get to all that I have in the works but that means that I'll have stuff for after Christmas as well and into the New Year. ;)
Today I finally have the first wave of Larva Tools ready...The Atwood Larva Tool is a compact pocket Pry bar made of 5/32" thick S30v steel with raw bar finish. Includes a 1/4" hex drive opening and grippy scalloped edges. Small and simple, measures just shy of 3 inches in length and 3/4" in width. These are compact and heavy duty little guys. They run $45 plus shipping and the link is below:
First Wave is sold out, thank you! Will try to get them all mailed out this morning.

Copper Lanslides
Howdy Everyone,
Sorry for the endless delays. There's only one of me and way too much stuff to do this time of year. Anyway, I have some of the copper Lanslides done. This is a first wave and there are more running even as we speak so a bunch more to come over the next week along with aluminum bronze. These copper Lanslides are gorgeous, with that rich reddish color and I have put them on black cord to really highlight it. Of course they will patina fairly quickly and folks can either let them go naturally or polish periodically if desired. Beautiful stuff! Additionally, the 5 Flute design seems like a really nice one to play around with for making some batches of these using different metals and other materials. :)
A word on the recent whistles...I forgot to mention that since aluminum bronze and brass look so similar in a freshly turned piece I decided to add a pinstripe to the keyring hole area to distinguish the materials. The brass whistles lack the pinstripe, the bronze have it. Now, I added the pinstripe halfway into the batch so not all the bronze whistles have it but from here on out they all will. I also did a small run of slim titanium whistles with the pinstripe just because it looks so cool and those ti whistles will be forthcoming sometime in the next week. Anyhow, hope that adds some clarity to the situation.
So, thanks for bearing with me and I'm working as fast as I can without stressing myself out completely! :)
Gone! Good grief guys! :D

Bronze Whistles
Hi Folks,
Wow, it's been a crazy week between the flu and all the rest of it. Anyway, I'm back on track and getting stuff done in the shop this week finally. It's going to be Whistle Central around here for a few days with titanium coming next and then a big batch of brass. Then I have 5 Flute Lanslides coming in titanium and also some 5 flute beauties in copper which are running this afternoon. Bronze 5 flutes will run in a week or so, still waiting on the material which is why I had them run some copper ones while I had a little window of machine time.
Anyway, today I have the first wave of bronze Whistles done. When the rest of the bronze comes in next week they will run me some more of them but I have just three dozen at the moment. This is an aluminum bronze alloy and when freshly turned it doesn't look all that different from brass. However, it is more corrosion resistant, a little harder and it will develop a dark rich patina that is different than brass. I chose this material because the other grades that are available either are oil impregnated for use as bushing material or they have a high lead content for machinability so I thought this would be the best choice despite it's higher cost. You wouldn't really want the other grades in your mouth as a whistle.
So, bronze whistles will run $50 each plus shipping and the link is below:

Update
OK, I'm starting to get over my flu that I've had for the past week, it really kicked my ass.
For December and before Christmas I will have:
Bronze whistles
Brass Whistles
Titanium whistles
Bronze 5 flute Lanslides (material is being shipped now to make them late next week, turns out it was delayed)
Larva prytools
5 flute titanium Lanslides(setting up today)
Last two dozen Snakebites
Last of the metric Doubleheaders
Might have time to sneak in one more heat treat before they shut down for Christmas break in which case it would be CrocoNut tools or G5 Prybabies.
Being cut this week are more Poltergeists, Mini Poltergeists and some proto designs.

Update
Happy Thursday Folks! Hope you all are feeling better than I am...I've been under the weather for a few days with a nasty cold but today I seem to be feeling a lot better. I'm hoping to get a full night's sleep tonight and be in even better shape coming into the weekend.
Anyway, I've been getting some work done this week. The Larva tools went out to heat treat on Tuesday so those will be back in two weeks and ready to go in time for Christmas.
I've been kicking butt on whistles this week as well as finishing up the stock I have here and am almost done with all of them. The next wave of whistles comes in from the shop tomorrow or Monday. I've got just a few bronze whistles right now but two more bars should be arriving today and so there are whole bunch more of those slated to be run. I believe they are just about done with the next brass ones so those will be coming on next week. I have more titanium whistles nearly completed downstairs and a few more will be run with the remaining ti stock I have at the shop.
Bronze Lanslides will get run next week right after the whistles are done. There are some mini Brewdrivers remaining from the batch earlier this year that are also going to get finished before the end of the year. G5 Prybabies might get squeezed in but more likely they may end up being a first week of January release. Dace are a long ways off, mid winter completion on those.
Pardon me while I go and cough some more... :(

More Brass Whistles
Hi All,
Sorry I've been so slow to get these done this week but I finally have another wave of brass whistles ready to go. These are slightly slimmer than the earlier ones and are a bit lighter in weight. I don't have one of the first wave left to compare but these weigh in at 25grams and exactly 1/2" in diameter whereas the previous run was a tad over 1/2". Just that little bit shaved off makes these a good bit lighter.
Anyway, the brass whistles are $45 plus shipping. I will have some more finished up early this coming week as well as more in other metals. And around the end of next week they will be turning a few more for me in brass so there will be even more on the way in case folks were looking for some stocking stuffers. :) Thanks for stopping by!
Sold out for now, thank you!

Lock Nut Monsters with Stamps
Happy Monday! It's a lot better than last Monday since at least the Patriots didn't disgrace themselves yesterday...hehe... :)
Coming towards the end of this week will be more whistles. I have brass ones being turned right now, also more stainless ones, more in titanium and a few in bronze. These next ones will all be of the slimmer style.
The way the schedule is working is I will get whistles turned this week then I get bumped for another job for 6-10 days, then they can get back to more whistles afterwards if needed. I'm hoping we can slip in some bronze Lanslides this week as well but those may have to wait until the next window of machine time two weeks from now. So...the earliest brass whistle sale would be at the end of this week if I can get them finished up.
Anyhow, I have the last of the Lock Nut Monsters done today. This is the tail end of the second wave and they feature my antique stamps. It's a small batch and nearly all are different so I'll just send you one at random. They are $75 plus shipping. Thanks as always for stopping in!
Sold Out, thank you!

Raw Bar Poltergeists
Hi Everyone,
Well it's Monday...it's rainy, gray and cold here. Not my favorite weather but a good day for a sale. Today I have S35v Poltergeists done with a light raw bar finish. This is the end of the Poltergeist batch and a relatively small number of them so it's a one per customer sale. I will be making another batch of these or something very similar after the holidays so more are on the drawing board.
Sold Out, thank you very much! :)

Poltergeists with Stamps
Happy rainy Thursday! It's a chilly 40 degrees and raining here today. Good day for a sale. :)
I have some more S35v Poltergeists ready to go. These have a variety of my antique stamps on them and they are mostly different. I have tied them with a variety of brightly colored lanyards as well. Since there are not a whole lot of these and they are all mixed up and different it's going to be a one per customer sale and I'll send you whatever I send you, no choice of colors or stamps. They're all nice though so I don't think anyone will be terribly disappointed. :) They run $55 plus shipping and the link is below, thank you for stopping by.

Three Dot Lanslides
Howdy Folks,
Hope everyone is having a good week so far. It's starting to cool off here and we'll be lucky to see 60 degrees this week. I think I know what's coming next even though I've been doing my darnedest to deny it... :)

Lock Nut Monsters
Happy Friday People! Hope you all are heading into a great weekend. I'm looking forward myself to getting out tomorrow with my photographer friends for a little photo field trip. Too bad the recent rain and wind knocked off a lot of the bright leaves but it should be fun anyway.
I have some Lock Nut Monsters done today. This is the second run of them and I have tweaked the jaws to make them a bit more aggressive in the grip. These have the same beautiful raw bar finish on them as the first batch. Features include six SAE wrench sizes, captive bit system with 1/4" phillips bit, bottle opener, screwdriver/pry end and lanyard opening which doubles as an O2 wrench. They are $70 each plus shipping. As always, I really appreciate everyone stopping by and keeping me going. Thank you! :)

Brass Whistles
Hi Everyone,
I have just two dozen of these today. I will have another big batch of them in about two weeks so no worries if you wanted one and miss out this time. They are $45 plus shipping, same as the stainless ones. I do have a few more stainless at this time too so if you want one of those please email me.
All gone, thank you very much!
I'll also be doing bronze whistles in two weeks so there will be yet another variation coming. I do not know yet about pricing on bronze as it is fairly expensive. It should be interesting material though and I've always wanted to check it out. I may do a few bronze Lanslides as well depending on time. They also said they would try a green G10 whistle but there is no guarantee at all that it will be possible. I still have a few dozen titanium whistles here btw, that are waiting to get cleaned up and put together and a bunch of stainless also. In addition to cleanup steps I'm also waiting on more inserts for them.
I'm almost done with putting together the Lock Nut Monsters! Poltergeists will head to heat treat this weekend. Dace knives went to heat treat already, will be lucky if they are done before the holidays however. SnakeBites will be coming towards the end of this month! Larva will be getting milled in about a week or two, hoping for an early November finish. G5 Prybabies are still sitting there waiting for me to start sanding and do the surface grinding, probably looking at late November or December for those. Hoping to do the last few dozen Mini Brewdrivers before the holidays as well.
That's the tentative schedule above...we'll see if I can crank all this out or not. It's a lot to juggle but I'm trying! :)

Jenny's New Book!
As many of you may or may not know, my wife Jenny is a writer. She has written many best selling business books over the years and also a terrific health book on diabetes. Well, after many years of writing novels for fun, she finally sold a three book series of historical romances to Avon a little over a year ago.
The first of those books, Lord Lightning, is now on bookstore shelves around the U.S.A. This is a big deal because the big publishing houses are not publishing very many new authors these days and this is something Jenny has always dreamed of doing. I'm so proud of her! :)
We're really curious about where Lord Lightning might be showing up, so I'm calling on all my web friends to help us out and let us know if Lord Lightning made it to the shelves in your town. To encourage you to participate Jenny has created a contest and will be offering prizes to randomly selected people who report their book spottings.
All you have to do to enter is snap a photo of Lord Lightning when you see it on a store shelf.
You'll find the web entry form where you can upload your spotting photo and a note about where you spotted Lord Lightning HERE
List of Spottings
You have your choice of prizes when you fill in the entry form. Choose an Advanced Reading Copy of Jenny's next novel or an Atwood Mini Rifle Knurl Lanslide.
We'll be drawing the winners on November 1, 2010.
The publisher tells us Lord Lightning was ordered by all the big chains and should be stocked in quite a few Walmarts, too. So that means Barnes and Noble, Borders and probably some other stores as well.
Don't let the lurid cover fool you. Though it is being marketed as a romance, with the traditional "clinch" cover, Lord Lightning is a well written, very well-researched, emotionally compelling story that people of both genders have found entertaining.
You can read an brief excerpt on Amazon HERE.

Just a Reminder about Paypal
Hey Folks,
Anyone who sends me funds via email arrangements needs to send the funds as a regular transaction for goods, NOT a personal transaction. I know you are trying to do me a favor and are just trying to save some fees but please don't do that. I have an agreement with Paypal as a merchant that I will not abuse my account and that means sidestepping fees for something that is a business transaction.
Believe it or not, I don't mind paying some fees as the service that Paypal provides me is far cheaper than it would be if I had to process my own credit cards. So, looking at it from a business point of view I'm quite happy to pay them their fees. And don't forget, as a merchant I am paying less per transaction than you would.
The other reason I ask please do NOT send funds via a personal transaction is that when you send funds via a personal transaction no address comes through because Paypal treats it as what you said it was, a personal transaction which means I don't need to mail anything right? So I have to dig through past transactions or ask for the address by email. And then either go through a bunch of extra steps to create a label or hand mail it at the PO window. So it makes more work for me...
Anyway, just trying to lay it out so folks understand it. ;)
Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Brass Whistles
Hi Folks,
OK, I got some brass whistles done finally. This is only the first wave. I'll have a few more available this weekend and then a lot more in about two weeks. These are slightly slimmer than the earlier whistles in order to lighten them up a little bit because they were quite heavy before. They are now basically the same diameter as the original whistles from years ago and more reasonable in weight. Thanks again for stopping by and the link is below:

Next Wave of Stainless Whistles
Good Morning Folks! Hope you're having a delightful weekend. :)
I have some more stainless whistles ready to go today.
The brass ones will not be ready until early this coming week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday. I still have a bit of work to do on them, clean up and assembly. I also have more titanium ones that need the same kind of attention. I can't hold the orders from today btw, so for those who will be asking me to wait until the brass ones are done so they will ship together no worries...I have tons more stainless ones to finish as well so when the brass are done you can ask me then about multiple orders. Today it's all stainless all the time! :D
Sold Out for today, thank you!

Stainless Steel Whistles
Happy Tuesday!
Today I have some of the 303 stainless steel whistles ready to go. I'm still working on titanium ones too but waiting for more inserts for them...but in the meantime I was able to complete these stainless pieces. This is only the first wave of them and there will be at least a couple more waves to go so no worries, many are in the pipeline and it will take me awhile to get them all cleaned up and put together. I should have some whistles of one kind or another on hand for at least a month or two so anyone who missed out can email me and I'll be able to hook them up.
Brass whistles are running either today or tomorrow so I will have those done in a few days. There will NOT be any damascus whistles in this run but I "might" have another surprise or two in the material department so stay tuned.
Stainless and brass whistles will run $45 plus shipping. International will go via Priority so you folks overseas can breathe a little easier. :)
First Wave Sold Out, thank you! I will finish many more of these in the coming days. I appreciate everyone stopping by this evening. :)

Rainbow Ti Whistles
Good Evening,
It's been a hectic couple of days with all sorts of distractions and it hasn't felt like I'm getting much done. Hopefully I'll get some solid shop time in over the weekend though.
I've still got quite a few more ti whistles in progress which I'll continue to work on over the next few days. I will have stainless ones early next week but I want to get through a few more of the ti whistles before I start in with finishing the stainless. Brass will be along in a week or two but I haven't even seen the bars yet at the shop so they are a ways off still.
Anyway, I have a few rainbow whistles done this evening. These have a matte finish and rainbow anodizing. There aren't very many so it's a one per customer sale tonight. Thank you!
Sold Out, thanks so much folks! I will make more. :)

Satin Blue Titanium Whistles
Good morning folks. Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was very busy with many things going on but the high point was the Patriots who I must say are looking darned promising this season...at least for now. :)
I've been finishing more whistles this morning and managed to get some blue ones completed. I'll do some other colors later this week but today I just have the blue ones and a few plain ones. These have a satin finish with blue anodizing. Since this is simple anodizng with no additional steps they are the same price as plain satin ones. Here is the purchase link and as always thanks for stopping by:

Still Working on Ano Whistles
I finally got more inserts yesterday evening. I have a very busy weekend planned with social commitments and quarterly paperwork (not to mention the Patriots at 1PM Sunday!) so might be Monday realistically before I can get enough completed for a sale. I think blue ones will be first up. I have tons and tons more whistles to finish so I think we'll have a variety of solid colors and rainbow...maybe I can get some tropicals done as well later next week. Stainless whistles will be coming late next week too followed by a small number of brass. And I just got back raw bar Lock Nut Monsters from heat treat so I'll get those up as soon as I can put them together. Sheaths should be coming for the Snakebites very very shortly. September is going to rock! :)

More Satin Ti Whistles!
Hi Folks,
This morning I managed to finish a few dozen more plain ti whistles. Later this week I will do some with anodizing which comes out very nice but these plain ones are still probably my favorites. I just love that brushed finish. :)
All gone for today. I have more on the way as soon as I can get them put together. Might do a few more plain ones and then I'll get into anodizing. Thank you very much!

Titanium Whistles
Hi Everyone,
I hope you've had a great weekend! It was just gorgeous here, so nice that I almost didn't get any work done...hehe. Actually I spent most of today indoors working on the new titanium whistles. I have a few dozen ready to go now. There are tons and tons more of these to go but tonight I have just what I was able to complete until I get more of the inserts.
These are very similar to the older ti whistle design but they feature the cool Art Deco inspired ribbed texture instead of the older knurled design. These have a plain brushed finish and come on a keyring. Up the road I'll do some anodized ones and those I will probably put on bead chain. Overall length is 2.5", diameter is 1/2 inch, weight is 16 grams. Due to the round shape and springy nature of titanium, like the last whistles, these do not bear the Atwood stamp. These will be the same price as the last titanium whistles, $95 plus shipping. International shipping will be via Express Mail for security. Here is the link:

Making Good Progress
Hi Folks,
I'm making good progress on current projects even though everything seems frustratingly slow. As viewers of the Atwood Toolbook section on Facebook already know, I am working on a brand new run of whistles, first release will be in titanium and then in a few weeks the later releases will be in stainless steel. There will not be any in damascus and due to the busy design there will not be any fancy patterns either. Hoping to have the first wave completed next week.
Also in progress is a new variation of the Ghost tool which will be called the Poltergeist. I have an updated G3 Prybaby about to be cut next week, called the G5 Prybaby. At heat treat right now and due back anytime is a good sized batch of Lock Nut Monster wrenches. I'm still waiting on sheaths for the Snakebite knives from my sheathmaker friend up in Canada...Dace knives have been ground and are just waiting for the last cleanup operation before heading to heat treat. Larva tools are awaiting milling. And I have one more tool in the Creature series that's about to be cut next week as well, the NutCrocker.
So, as you can see, there is just a ton of stuff happening but nothing is popping just yet. Should be a different picture by the end of next week. So in the meantime, hope everyone has a terrific long weekend and some well deserved rest! :)

Slotted Lanslides
Good evening everyone,
I finished up a few of the slotted Lanslides today. These have a cool striated texture on them...shiny highlights with an overall stonewashed finish. They have three slots measuring 1.5mm x 5mm, just the right size for standard small self actuating glow tubes available from Bart on CPF. This batch is very small, just three dozen of them. These were much more costly to make than the regular Lanslide series so are a little more expensive. They run $25 each plus the shipping. When these are gone I have a few more plain ones coming as well which I may anodize.
Sold out, thank you!

Rest of the Chiggers
Hi folks,
Finally cooling off here today. I'm looking forward to relaxing this weekend and pursuing my photography hobby. In case anyone was wondering, the signed photos I've been including with my sales this week are just random shots from my collection and they vary widely in subject matter. Most of them have been hot rod shots from a recent local gathering of gorgeous vintage cars but I also do a lot of nature shots and misc. experimental images. I have a wide variety of cameras and lenses so you never know what I will come up with. I won't be including them all the time, just when I happen to have prints on hand but I thought it would be fun thing to do, kinda like the old fashioned tobacco and gum cards they used to give out back in the day. ;)
I have the rest of the Chiggers packaged up this morning and the link is below. Thanks again for looking in on me and I hope you're having a terrific week!

More DoubleHeaders
Happy Wednesday folks. Hope you are keeping cool!
Today I finished up more of the plain DoubleHeader wrenches. This batch really came out nice with a beautiful shiny stonewashed surface.
Made of Crucible’s CPM 3V premium tool steel hardened to 58-59 Rockwell and cryo treated, this 4 1/2" long, 5/32" thick compact multi wrench tool features twelve metric wrench sizes: 6,8,10,12,14 and 16mm on one end and 5,7,9,11,13 and 15mm on the other. Additional ¼ and 5/16 wrench openings and oxygen wrench also included.
All gone for now, thank you!

Chiggers!
Howdy Folks,
I have some plain basic Chiggers™ ready to go today.
The simple design of the Chigger™ pays homage to the classic key ring screwdriver/pry tools of the past but adds a bottle opener and 5/16" wrench. The large 3/4" hex opening makes it easy to slip onto a keyring and helps provide grip. The Chigger™ is made of 5/32" thick CPM S30v steel, is 2.25" long and features a stone washed finish. These are $45 each plus shipping. As always, thanks for stopping by, I sure do appreciate it.
All gone for now, a few more coming shortly. Thank you.

More Stamped DoubleHeaders
Hi Everyone,
OK, I have the last of the stamped Doubleheaders done and ready to go. There are less than two dozen of them so I'll make this sale one per customer so the most folks possible have a chance at them. I got word yesterday that my other batch of plain DoubleHeaders is leaving heat treat today so I should have them early next week.
All Gone, thank you!

DoubleHeaders with Stamps
Alrighty then, I managed to get the rest of the DoubleHeaders sorted and finished up. I still have some plain ones left and will have an additional entire batch of plain ones coming back from heat treat in two weeks. In the meantime, today I have the stamped ones ready to go. There are several dozen of these, mostly different, so to keep it simple I'm not going to offer a choice of stamps, I'll just pick one and send whatever I send. These will be $60 plus shipping and the link is below. Thanks!
Sold Out, thank you!

DoubleHeader Wrenches!
Hi Folks,
Thanks for your patience during this long hot summer. It's been slow and everything is moving at a glacial pace it seems. But it's going to pick up very soon and here's a bit of that trickle that I promised a week ago.
The first wave of DoubleHeader Wrenches are finally done. These are closely based on a historical double ended alligator wrench design from the turn of the last century that I found in an antique shop and have always wanted to make. My version is all metric in sizes though and is made of premium CPM 3V tool steel which has a reputation as a ridiculously tough and hard steel for heavy duty applications. Keep an eye on it and apply some oil or other protection periodically as this one has less corrosion resistance than S30v. Part of the tradeoff if you want toughness.
The DoubleHeader, #2 in the Creature Series, features 5,7,9,11,13 and 15mm wrenches on the Oxygen Wrench and Atwood logo end (the odd numbers on the odd end!) and 6,8,10,12,14 and 16mm on the 1/4" Hex end. And a 5/16 hex in the middle. OAL is 4 1/2 inches and the thickness is 5/32. These have a somewhat shiny stonewashed finish.
I have one batch back from heat treat which I am sorting now. These first ones are plain and are $55 plus shipping.
More coming tomorrow, thanks!

I'm Grinding!
Sorry for the long period between updates...Despite taking a lot of time this summer for some playtime I've been quite busy working on projects as well. Here's the current situation:
At heat treat right now:
Metric DoubleHeaders
More Metric DoubleHeaders
Oddball batch of Chiggers that I forgot about
Second batch of LockNut Monsters
Waiting on sheaths for Snakebites. Waiting on grinding for Dace knives. Waiting on cutting for something new called the Hooker. Waiting on cutting for the Larva. Lot of waiting it seems... :p :D
Destined for the tumbler and finishing very soon would be tritium slotted Lanslides.
I have some odds and ends of tools that I ought to prepare for some sign up sales too...
And, I have some plans for something brand new turned in titanium that would be a September or October timeframe release.
So, barring catastrophe, there will be a trickle starting in a few days that will turn into a raging torrent of stuff by the end of August. :)
