I'm not a big blog watcher so I don't know all the ins and outs of it doing the RSS feed (RSS feeds send you an alert when a blog has been updated). However, I'm sure someone will pipe up in the comments on this thread and give some specifics. Or you can Google the question and find out easily I'm sure... I do know that if you go down the right hand column of this page it will show you a button that says "Syndicate" and that's one way to get to the sign up options.

Interesting how the entire way of purchasing Atwood pieces has changed. I remember the days when you would have to sit and sit and sit and refresh and sit and refresh. Then get up get some coffee and do all over again. Oh those were the days. Now you got all these fancy computer gadgets to cheat your way to the top.
Well thats the way it goes I guess.
Its like the old way of farming compared to the new way of farming, tech style.
It's weird isn't it? LOL, don't ask me, I just make the stuff. :P
Yeah robots to zap.. so much for being persistent and working hard... its a bummer ,oh well like Freddie Mercury sang
(life still goes on)

I have always respected Peters wishes, and never refreshed his site more than a few times in a day, or week. If you are patient, things just seem to work out for you. They always have for me. I have never done one of these RSS feed things. I will figure it out. =)
hey i still get my fix the old fashioned way, heck i was up at 6 am, drinking coffee and watching hurricane ike on my laptop while refreshing the heck out of this site, i sat there for a minute when the SOPT post went up with no link and almost lost it, then it appeared and i jumped on it!! w00t for the old school!
Hi Peter,
what's that new "Hangar" thing on your site about? Selected past works? The "Three Way Keychain Screwdriver" and the "Atwood TT" are really neat.
Shame I couldn't get one of the SOPTs, I guess I have to accustom my dog to waiting a little bit longer before talking a walk ;-)
Hopefully I will be able to fetch a MSOPT or SOPT before christmas ...
Hi Peter,
If you already have a gmail or blogger account then you should be able to use google's reader application.
From there you can provide the url of the blog you care to follow (this is how I follow yours BTW). Then when you have provided all those you care to follow, every time you bring up the reader it will let you know which blogs have updates and you can just read through all the updates at once.
It is a very easy to use and handy application. Good luck!
all you need is an RSS reader. Some browsers (such as Safari on MAC) have them built in. Once you have a reader, just go to a syndicated blog and click the "subscribe" or "RSS" button and you are pretty much set. The new version of MAC Mail has a reader built in so that updates show up as emails. Nifty. Now, do I get a free blade for responding?
Signing up for an RSS feed is reader specific but it usually starts by clicking the RSS icon just to the right of the URL. At least that's where is is in Firefox... I wouldn't suggest using any other browser.
I'm a big fan of google reader (and there's lots of "howtos" on that. But basically when you click the icon, Firefox will give you a few choices and will redirect the "sign up" notice to the appropriate place.
You can also just add RSS feeds into firefox and then they function kinda like "dynamic bookmark folders" where the folder will be the site name and the entries will change over time (kinda annoying).
Give google reader a try and you won't be sorry!
Those on LiveJournal can now add "atwoodtool" to their f-lists.

I posted instructions on edcforums.com on using blogger.com's built in rss/atom functions. Search for "rss".
Peter,
From a technical perspective, an RSS feed is a just web page that contains a summary of other pages on a particular site.
The RSS feed doesn't send updates. It needs to be checked for updates just like a normal web page. A newsreader application will do this for you automatically.
Newsreaders typically check for updates once or twice per day, but can be configured to check as often as once a minute (which is handy if you're waiting for an announcement ;-)
RSS is just a text document delivered over port 80, just like a web page. You need, however, a dedicated client to retrieve the updates for you. Port 80 is a stateless port, meaning that a connection is only opened long enough to retrieve the document requested by the client which is then copied to the local cache of the client for reading.

If you use Firefox, I recommend Sage. There are many, many stand alone clients, some which allow you to schedule when the client checks the feed (for Atwood, it's http://atwoodknives.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss ) for updates.
If you have an iPhone, there are RSS readers for it.
If you have a Blackberry, you can use viigo and always leave it on.
Sorry, it looks like the feed URL you're trying to promote is an atom feed located at http://atwoodknives.blogspot.com/atom.xml
Hi Peter,
How do we know when a second batch has been released and sold out?
Have I missed another batch already today?
To me RSS is no big deal. I signed up at Google (reader). Put in "Planet Pocket Tool" as the site to check. When I open my browser, I have to click my bookmarks, click google reader and there I see if any changes have been made. Before, I clicked bookmarks, Atwood's site, the PPT, then the blog. So I saved about 2 clicks. Big deal. Then to look at other parts of Peter's site, I have to go back to bookmarks and go to Peter's site as I don't see any links to go from the RSS site to Peter's--if that makes sense. Bottom line--do what you are doing.
Man...the linked site is having issues this morning. =-/
Pingie worked for me. Look it up! =-]
