Crypto!

Howdy Folks!

Well, I've been hitting the grinder pretty hard lately and have been getting a ton of stuff done. While we're waiting for steel tools to get through heat treat I have another little project that has finally come to fruition...Introducing the first of the Mystery Tool series:

Crypto!

So here's what happened...One night I left the LockNut Monster and a Prybaby® on the bench together next to a case of beers, unchaperoned, and this is the predictable result. That's their story and they're sticking to it! :D

The Cryptos are an interesting hybrid concept. At first glance it might appear that these are left handed grinds since they face the opposite of my usual Prybaby® configuration. But after playing with the design a bit I decided to switch things up this time and make the "Prybaby®" end the tail of the creature, thereby emphasizing the jaws. The truth is, this is such an ambidexterous tool that the pry tip orientation really doesn't matter much so I think everyone will be happy with this run regardless of hand dominance. Also, I am making a second batch in S30v steel and I may grind those the other way for variety, we'll see what happens once they are underway.

Anyway, the Cryptos are made of titanium and are slightly lighter than usual at .125 thick, still very substantial feeling in the hand however. The features include a prytip/screwdriver (no V Notch on this batch), cap lifter, 5/16 wrench, large 1/2" hex opening, 1/4" hex opening and offset open jaws with the usual SAE sizes 1/4"-9/16".  The first wave of these are stonewashed only, no anodizing, but I have several more waves of them in process and will do some colors on the next ones.

The fiddle factor with this tool is off the charts and I have been addictively spinning them between my fingers every time I pick them up. Too much fun! :)

The Cryptos will run $70 plus shipping and the link is below. It's a small initital batch so one per customer please. Thanks for stopping in this weekend and I hope everyone is thinking Spring, I know I am more than ready for it to arrive!

Cryptos are Sold Out for now, thank you so much everyone! I have more on the way soon so stay tuned.

I am starting to think that these tools are all pieces to a rather wacky puzzle!

Got one. We'll see how it feels in the hand. If not there's always Ebay. Still trying for a Ti Roid.

Amazing what beer, metal, tools, and a pair of skilled mitts will produce. Keep the awesome work coming! This looks like the ultimate 'user'.

This one really looks like a dinosaur! I think I'm going to hold out for colors, so congrats to everyone who scored!

For someone living in another timezone and only online at nite, these are pretty impossible to get! Considering I been following your blog for close to 2 years! Any chances for the listing to run at least 3 days to give us mortals a shot?

If anyone doesn't like there I will buy!!!!

What is the overall length?

Never mind I sometimes stray from the computer for about an hour so I will probably miss these.

Looks quite useful, congrats to the lucky few.

Its always a good day when you score an Atwood! I was out in a lite rain running the metal detector looking for coins and other stuff when my phone alert went off. Glad I was tuned in and paying attention!

Awesome hybrid. Congrats to all that scored. Would love to score one of these.

Very pretty, I love anything with alligator jaws.

But, after cutting my hand trying to use the bottle opener on another of your tools, I wonder why it is so ever-present in your work. Seems rather archaic in today's age of twist-off caps.

Wait wait wait... u can set a alert for a new post on the PPT blog? Details plz

Unknown said...

Yeah how do you set up an alert?

ironpony said...

How happy are they?

Happy as three frogs on a window sill with a new Atwood Crypto.
They sure look happy.

Possible Gieco commercial.

HighSpeedTROUBLE said...

No, you can't "set an alert" for these. If you could, then we would all do that and you wouldn't hear all the whining and moaning about it not being fair because someone's in a different friggin' timezone all the time.

Very cool Peter!
BTW what's that frog doing to that other frog lol.

You can set an alert using an app such as "Push" or anything that alerts to RSS feeds.

HighSpeedTROUBLE said...

No you can't...not and have it notify you fast enough to actually be able to buy anything.
