Ti Rulers Coming Soon

They are back from marking and I'm quite pleased. These have been such a long time in coming for what they are and it's been kinda nuts. Basically it was one of those little projects where everything that could go wrong did go wrong. But I'm finally beyond all that and if I do these again or at least some variation of them I will know exactly what to do next time.

Anyway, I was able to rescue about half of the batch. A lot of these do have minor surface blems, blips and small scratches so do be forewarned. I'll be sorting them out over the next few days and will save what I can. Because of uneven finishes from tumbling I will have to bead blast these with a fine glass bead media but that is not all bad since it gives them a nice frosted look. I'll be anodizing some and leaving some plain...we'll see what happens with them when I get fully underway with the finishing.

Note the cool way that the laser marked scales develop complementary colors to the main color of each piece. It's a really neat effect. Green gets gold marks, gold gets UV, UV gets green and (not shown) blue gets silver. Plain just looks dark gray or black.

Peter..... I have been reading about your progress with these rulers (or lack thereof) and can't wait until they are ready. I hope I am able to grab one!

Nice!

Might I add too. I really like that you have both standard and metric on there. I have been looking for a good pocket ruler with standard measurements for some time here in Japan w/no success. Can't wait :)

I have one of the old small starrett rulers but have always hoped there would be an atwood model! Very excited about this.

Outstanding! Another work of utilitarian art!

If some of them have to many markings on them for you to feel comfortable selling, I would be interested in a few of those seconds :)

Those look fantastic Peter! Any idea on the price? Thanks for coming up with another way for me to spend money (-:

+1 Eric

I'd love a "second" piece because I know I'm going to ding it up anyway.

wow these are amazing, I am a machinist and have been looking at your work for the past few weeks and loving it, this would be great for getting in those places where a standard 6" scale won't fit, would love to get one of these, awesome work

These look great Peter. Sorry they gave you a rough time! I'm glad to see an item that offers a significantly different functionality -- I can justify grabbing one of these (whereas the Mrs. would look askance at another pry/open/screw/bit piece). Bravo.

OK, guys, we gals that are knitters are looking forward to this, as well....just a thought for your significant other. I can't wait.

With the markings going down to 1/16s these will make great pocket scales. They all look nice, but I am interested to see the blue and silver contrast. Everything is blue in central KY!

Peter these are gonna be big! I'm with a few of the others in that I'd easily take a blem for what it is. As long as its square and measures I want one! I understand about not wanting to distribute all of the blems for lack of a fine product but we're not too picky! Dont give up on these suckers yet.

what about "unstamped seconds"

Peter Atwood said...

Guys, I just don't know yet if there will be any seconds or if I will allow ones in bad shape to leave my shop at all. I will check it out when I start working on these. Won't be today because I have a meeting after lunch and am just finishing up orders this morning.

I really want one!

Preferably plain, I won't mind scratches etc, as I plan to use it:)as long as its straight and the markings are visible :D

Wow -

Any idea on the price?

Peter, How thick are the rulers? Some of the pics make em look fairly beefy.

Very nice work, Peter, as always.

I've never seen another maker command such a following, even for seconds of a product. I'm sorry all these didn't turn out as well as you would've liked. I'm just glad you could save some of them.

So...when do we get to see the Atwood meter stick? ;)

The ti rulers are .090 thick so 3/32" stock. They are going to be $45 plus shipping. Hoping to finish some tomorrow and have an afternoon sale or a rainy Sunday sale. ;)

The rulers look great in all the colors, and the size is perfect (same length as my Fenix LD-01), but I'm wondering if I missed something... What's on the other side? I'm hoping it's totally loaded up with scales: decimal inches would be obvious, points (for typography) or pixels at 72dpi (for computer graphics) would be really handy. For that matter, what about a notches for metal gauge in the tip, plus some small diameter calibrated holes for screw and round stock diameters? And heck, fantasy complete: cigar ring size gauge. If not, well, maybe next time. I bet you could fit all that pretty neatly, especially if you left off the hex holes, since I'm gonna have those on the Superbug :) Cheers!

A simple but useful little tool, i really like the rulers. The anodizing looks sweet on them. How durable is the color though, will it survive frequent use and pocket carry?
Looking forward to those and maybe i manage to snag one.

Man if you start to think about all the times when I've said, "I just wish I had an idea how wide that is or how deep" it becomes apparent how useful these could be.

HAHA. Well Ian, you have a lot of work cut out for you then.
