G3 Prybaby Sneak Preview

Working on these this weekend. I'm so psyched as I think that in many ways this Generation 3 is the best Prybaby® yet. Yes the functions are nearly identical to the Atwrench but like I said in another thread I think of it as the same three cords yielding a much different song. It's only rock and roll and I like it! :)

Here's a teaser shot of one of the raw pieces ready for heat treat:

Nice work, Peter!

Yes, I love my Atwrench, but nothing opens a beer like a Prybaby. Put them together and it's the best! Thanks, Peter

digging it peter!! very cool! are these going to be available in Ti or just steel?

Anonymous said...

That is so cool!! For some reason, I think it looks MEAN. This is a major evolution of Prybaby, and any Prybaby fan like me couldn't be happier. Thank you Peter!

Peter Atwood said...

Thanks!

The first small batch is already at the heat treaters. I'm in the middle of the second batch right now. This is the fourth day of working on them coming up tomorrow...hope to have them off to heat treat by end of the week.

First batches are steel and then I'll see about maybe doing some in ti.

So, lots of good stuff coming. :)

Holy Shnikes!

Peter Atwood said...

Hehe, yeah Joe, the new style edge scallops give it an awesome grip and they make it look like it's on steroids.

Rick said...

It does have a "mean" kickin butt look to it. I really like it! I'd like to see some side by side shots with a G2 mini Prybaby for a size comparison. This proto looks like it will be significantly bigger. Hard to tell though.

I really like the Atwrench design and this will be another fun tool to carry around. Of course, I would also love to see some in Ti and maybe even some "fun" designs with glow dots and A51 grinds.

Excellent work and thanks for posting the pic! I have been looking forward to seeing your design.

:)

I want one

WOOW.....I havent been able to catch anything for awhile but this baby is a MUST!!!

GREAT JOB, Peter!!

Now that is a master piece =]

Anonymous said...

I like the design-look of this tool as much as anything I've ever seen of yours. I wish you could make a batch of about a thousand or so of these so that I could snag one without having to check your site obsessively.

Here's hoping to increased distribution of your designs in the future.

Unknown said...

That is a very impressive tool. I think it is one of your finest innovations yet. What size wrenches are incorporated with the G3?

Anonymous said...

Please, please, please make these in titanium. Can't wait for more of your amazing creations. Just gotta keep my paypal account healthy and hope for some good timing on my part. Keep up the awesome work as always Peter.

DB said...

Peter, I hope you don't mind me saying this, but....

HOLY CRAP IS THAT BADASS!!!! That's gotta be like the M1 Abrams of pocket tools!

Anonymous said...

Peter: Can you provide us with an approximate purchase price for the G3 Prybaby?

Omer Bila said...

This is perfect. I think I will EDC this one for sure. I currently carry my Atty sharktooth and gasbaby everywhere. This G3 prybaby will complete all the Atwood functionalities that I am missing on the go. Nice work Peter, I look forward staring at your website availability page till you dangle the candy before our eyes.

Peter Atwood said...

Thanks folks! :)

These are the same size as a regular G2 Gasbaby. Three inches long. They will run $55 I think.

Anonymous said...

I guess not, but... is the wrench metric?

Peter Atwood said...

Wrench sizes are 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2 and 9/16. The first batch has 5/8 also but I tweaked the second run and had to eliminate the largest size.

BlackMacX said...

Peter,
That's exactly what I imagined the G3 Prybaby would look like when you told me about it in email over the weekend. I hope to be one of the fortunate ones to buy one (whether steel or maybe Titanium).

Great work and it looks awesome.

Gun Mule said...

Yikes!!! Gottta Have one of these. Great work Peter. :)

Anonymous said...

any news on the metric atwrenches peter?

Anonymous said...

Wow, that is a wild-looking tool! Being labeled as the third generation of the Prybaby, do you intend to stop producing G2s? I only ask because the two seem different enough that they might have separate niches.

Unknown said...

Wow....Atwood porn at its finest!

Anonymous said...

Steel or Ti does not matter to me, I just hope to score one!!!

Cuso said...

Peter the new G3 Prybaby looks awesome , but I don't see much difference between it and the Atwrench...

Peter Atwood said...

Yeah, no kidding! Same functions as the Atwrench which was my point in the text of the post. But different shape and a continuation of the Prybaby line.... :)

Anonymous said...

Looks awesome Peter! Do you expect a metric version in the near future? Maybe with a glow dot ;)

Anonymous said...

Is there anyway there's gonna be a metric version? Pretty please with sugar on top etc :-D

Exit14a said...

Any chance of some of these being made with the bend before the prytip for extra leverage?

Peter Atwood said...

Metric yes but I need to redraw the opening.

Will I do some with a bend? I don't know yet, maybe....

Anonymous said...

I like this design, although I strongly support the return of the leverage bend.

Anonymous said...

Don't put that stupid bend back in there. It makes it not lay flat on the keychain and has minimal additional value added to the tool. Really ruins a good, streamlined design to stick the bend in there. Makes it look like an afterthought. If you need THAT much damn leverage, get a ******* prybar.

Peter Atwood said...

Hehe, not that anyone has strong opinions or anything. :D

Well, I might do a handful with bends. The first batch is already done though so no bends in the first ones.

Anonymous said...

its missing something...

the screwdriver end!!!

Todd said...

Looks beautiful! Time for more wasted productivity at work checking your page (-:

Is there any chance of adding a "recent items sold" area to your blog with the name of the tool and the date it went on sale? It would be helpful to keep track of where you are in process and what could possibly be coming up next?

Anonymous said...

I agree with shadeone. Putting on a screwdriver end is a good idea.

Cuso said...

I vouch for what todd said, sold items are instantly removed from the page and it makes it look like there has not been anything there for ages...For a couple days I thought nothing was being made until I saw some of the posts on EDCF. Keep the "SOLD-OUT" for a couple days ,so we know what we missed....

Anonymous said...

1+ on the screw tip idea.

That would complete the prybaby ;)

Peter Atwood said...

Actually I think it would be a little long if you put a screwdriver on the end. I intentionally did not go that route to save 5/8". Also more comfortable to use with a round butt end. But who knows, maybe I'll try one in a future batch and see how it is.

Anonymous said...

Please do the alternabatch!! A PryBaby without the screwdriver on the tail just isn't a PryBaby!!!!! That triangle end is one of my all time favorite notes in your chords. Maybe you can drop a size or two off the wrench to save on the length....

It's truly a fine time to be an Atwoodite. :-)

Anonymous said...

So many cooks in the kitchen...the soups getting muddy!

Anonymous said...

Do you have an idea when this will be for sale?...or would that be considered cheating? :)Ready...Set...BUY!

Peter Atwood said...

I don't know yet because the heat treater never tells me how much they have before my job. It's summer and they may be slower so they can do it sooner but I really have no idea. I would guess I'll see the first ones back end of next week maybe. The bigger batch just went out today so it will be two weeks or so.

Anonymous said...

Here's another scalper. He's constantly gouging people with respect to your tools and is clearly buying, hoarding, then selling.

Peter Atwood said...

OK Anonymous. You keep posting links to these guys on threads which are only about current tools. Please knock it off. If you want to report someone to me like this then please email me. This recent one is someone who has a tool they bought years ago. Scalpers are people who buy stuff today and sell it tomorrow at inflated prices, not the same thing. I have explained it and explained it and I'm sick to death of explaining it.

Anonymous said...

Peter
I have a great idea for you next new design, you could call it the

Cry Baby :) Keep up the great work buddy !!!

Ed

Anonymous said...

ok well you and ed can both fuck off then. gouging is fucking gouging doesn't matter when they bought it.

Peter Atwood said...

I'm sorry you feel that way friend. I try not to judge people harshly unless there's a real good reason. People can do whatever they want with my stuff after they buy it. Obviously. We are in America not Russia. However, I do have a stated policy on scalpers and that is all I am concerned with here.

Rick said...

So....now back to the G3 Prybaby and its tough as hell design. :)

Anonymous said...

Wow..I'm liking the G3. More innovative designs from the master.

Anonymous said...

How is the width (not thickness) of these as compared to G2 Prybabies? Looks wider. And XL's are the best ever, please do some with bends!

Peter Atwood said...

Same exact front end and width as the G2 Gasbaby and G2 Prybaby. 3 inches OAL.

I've been playing with some drawings today and I have a design nailed down for a future version with a screwdriver butt end. The one I have finalized happens to be the metric version and that will be the only purely metric tool that I will be offering this year. OAL on that one will be 3.55 inches. I'll do an American version of it as well but I just wanted let the rest of the world know that indeed a metric tool is in the final design stages and will probably be cut on the next round of cutting.

Yes, I did a few XL G3s.

Anonymous said...

Awesomeness!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Any leftys?

Anonymous said...

There is a thread on EDCForums dedicated to tracking Atwood items. You can use that to see what has been for sale recently.

Peter Atwood said...

Yes, I did 30 G3 lefties. :)

Hey Peter,

the new G3 Prybaby with edge scallops looks great :)

Bent or not bent, I cant wait for them to come out & maybe even in Ti too!

Keep up the great work ;)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for thinking of the "sinister sixth" Peter....

Anonymous said...

..."screwdriver butt end"...."metric" .."lefty" G3...the music just get's sweeter .... it's only rock n roll an I like it too!!!

Unknown said...

Looks great, nice combination of functions. Also, I love my funnybone, use it a half dozen times a week, and usually for more than just opening a beer. My pop loves the nibble I gave him for his birthday, he's not quite as much of a gadget nut as me, but he appreciates well designed tools.

Thanks, keep up the good work,

http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=181721

where do you get this crap? What basis to you have to throw that slander out there? I am most certainly NOT a gouger or scalper, as I buy OLDER tools on the SECONDARY market when I seen them available, enjoy them for a while, and then OCCASIONALLY sell some. You would have to know what I paid for the items initially before you can accuse me of any such thing.

Peter is clearly upset at those who buy his tools new from the website and then turn around and immediately sell them for inflated prices. This is NOT me, you freakin' jerk.

sounds like sour grapes to me:
