Hey Folks,
I have newbies emailing me every week asking me the same question and I guess my FAQ isn't clear enough. So I will post the answer here that I just wrote in response to an inquiry.
I have two kind of sales:
1. General Sales: In which I post a
clickable link above the picture of the item being offered. Lately these
have been over in about 5-10 minutes. After the sale is over and the
item is sold out I remove that clickable link. This is why you don't see
any links there now.
2. Sign Up Sales: These are special sales
for items where I only have a handful available, usually for unique
items such as patterned pieces, special grinds, unusual one off type of
things and edged tools. In this type of sale I post a link to a Sign Up Page
and on this page you would enter your name and email. Later in the day I
draw winning numbers and send the winners a link to purchase the item
being offered. I rarely do SUSales but once in a while I put one up. You
have to sign up for each and every Sign Up Sale individually at the
time that I post the sale. In other words, you can't sign up and be
permanently signed for every SUSale down the road. This is because
you may not be interested in the next item that I post and I only want
people signed up for those items they are interested in.
Thanks,
Peter

For a second there......I thought I was gonna catch a sale lol
thanks Peter!
Hi Peter
I am one of those newbies, is there a certain time that you post sales or is it completely random and we just need to always check your blog? Thank you, Roger.
How about a real general sale to demonstrate? :-)
Roger, it's completely random.
Marty
I agree with unknown ;) lol
Hi Peter.
You might want to adjust your times of seeking out. Its more like 1-2 mins before the link is gone. Lol
That's demand at its finest!! Love all the work you do!!
5-10 minutes, wow, I think I'm going to have to be happy with the pieces I have. Congratulations on your success Peter. Work hard, follow your dream and success will follow.
Thanks Marty.
With such great demand, it would be interesting to try a Dutch auction, i.e. start with an unrealistically high price, say $500, and lower it 10% every hour until the lot is sold out.
Of course in the absence of Dutch auction software, it would be too much of a bother...
"You may not be interested in the next item that I post." I guess there's a first time for everything!
Looking forward to the next sale!
Peter. Try sold out in 55 seconds !!!!!!
Or Less :-)
cant wait for the next sale.
Peter you left out the main info here that the majority of your tools go to people that electronically monitor the site and jump on every sale so they can sell the tools on Ebay for two or three times the original value within a day or two of receiving them. I know that's why I quit collecting your stuff about a year ago I was actually using your tools and honestly it's just not worth the battle anymore.
