Something on the Side

Every once in a while a little project not related to my stuff comes up that is worth doing. Recently such an opportunity presented itself. Those not familiar with the amazing flashlights of Don McLeish should certainly check out candlepowerforums.com and see for yourself what the King of Custom Flashlights is all about.

This is a sneak preview of one of Don's upcoming LunaSols:

This was a one off project, not doing any others. These flashlights will be costing somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 each to begin with, maybe even more. You'd have to contact Don to get one and again, this was a one off piece and I'm not planning to do any others. It was cool though and so I just wanted to do one and see how it came out. The future owner of the light likes it a lot! :D

Mmmmm, tritium. Peter, have you ever thought about including a tritium slot into one of your tools? I've always wanted to drill a small enough hole in my prybaby so I can stick a 1.5 x 5mm tritium tube in there.

Thats one pretty light!

Don does great work - well out of my reach more's the pity.

I know in the past that Peter has made a microcard with tritium. There was even a "window" in the kydex sheath that allowed it to show through if I remember correctly. It might be listed at Area 51, but I'm not sure.

BEAUTIFUL annodizing Peter. Seriously gorgeous. I know who the lucky recipient of that light is, but I can keep a secret;)
(gotta admit I'm a little jealous though)

I had a flash light habit for a while... had to cut it out, got expensive fast. I still carry a Fenix light paired with my Ti yellow fence patterned Prybaby. Looks real sharp together. That and a knife and I am always ready.

That is sweet. Nice work man. How do I go about getting one of those?

Way too flashy for me. I like the tech aspect but this colouring hurts really bad.

I have been waiting for the new run of Ti LunaSol27's. I had no Idea that they would be Atwoodized like that!! Very nice. Will the whole run be like that, or just a couple?

How durable is the anodization on titanium? My impression from carrying other anodized titanium is that it's somewhat fragile, at least in comparison to type III hard anodized aluminum. Am I wrong?

There won't be any others with anodizing. It was quite a process to do the finish just on this one. Also it was complex in that the light had to be shipped to me before Don builds it out and then back to Don for finishing. So kind of nuisance to arrange but a fun one to do just for the sake of doing. :)

You didn't miss anything. I'm still not quite done with them but will be tomorrow. :)
