The upcoming SharkTooth...these are a couple of rough "in progress" shots to get an idea what the tool will be. Basically it's a Pop n Chop morphed onto a BugBite with a SharkBite thrown into the mix.
These are super handy little guys. I've been carrying a proto for a few weeks now and I can tell you that I am more than pleased with it's performance. Talk about a great little tool... I was using it to open packages this week, break down boxes in the garage and popped a couple of beers with it too. :) And I'm doing the sheaths so that the bit will be accessible without removing the whole tool from the sheath. Neat little piece.
Still weeks away though from being finished...check out how close to the same I ground all these. Whew! :D
Wow
ReplyDeleteThe Sharktooth looks great. I hope I am lucky enough to get one. I have been looking forward to your new edged tools...
beautiful - exactly the sort of tool I was hoping for! And it looks like you're making a good-sized batch.
ReplyDeleteaaaaahhhhhhh! another one for the books. put me on the list! damn it no list! come on lucky nuber 7 daddy needs a new Atwood!
ReplyDeleteThose are going to be VERY cool. With the way folks eat your stuff up, you better have a few hundred in that first batch!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Peter, thanks for the Ti Gasbabys today! They were available for nearly 6-1/2 hours! And now these SharkTooth pieces...they're beautiful. You've been working awfully hard and WE APPRECIATE IT!
ReplyDeleteLookin good Peter!
ReplyDeleteVery Nice! I scored a gasbaby today, (YEEHAH!) which will go back in my wallet where my old tool was before it became lost...but those sharktooths are awfuly nice
ReplyDeleteyay got my 2nd atwood tool.one for me and one for my brother who is a smokejumper and always passes on cool government and fire tools, recently gave me a microtech mini switchblade. now my turn to give back with a cool atwood tool. thanks peter love your work. wow the sharkbites look wicked, if im lucky enough to get... one all mine.
ReplyDeleteSharkidashi :-)
ReplyDeleteYou rock, homie.
This is astonishingly wonderful! You once again outperform yourself and others. Congrats and thanks Peter!
ReplyDeleteWonderful evolution Peter! I can't wait for this tool. I love how it's a combination of a number of your tools and packs a lot of functionality and a blade into a small package. This Shark definitely has some bite.
ReplyDeleteHope I can score one of the 50 I can see in the 2nd photo :).
Awesome, can't wait to get a shot at these. Pure genious.
ReplyDeleteSharktooth is too cool... perhaps a lottery to give everyone a chance at the first batch?
ReplyDeletePeter, have you considered doing a black oxide finish? Maybe appropriate on a bug out bar or blade?
Gah! Peter, you're killing me! First I score a Sharkbite, because it's the perfect keychain tool for me. Then you release the nibble, and I think "it's got everything, plus smaller" so I swap out for it.
ReplyDeleteWith this, I can even leave my pocket knife and just carry one tool for 99% of my everyday needs. I'm hoping that I can score one!
You're ability to make small pieces of metal into intensely desirable objects never ceases to amaze me. I really want one of these.
ReplyDeleteHey Peter,
ReplyDeleteman those look great. Keep up the good work!
~George
You never fail to astonish, that's for sure! Definitely some great concepts coming out of that head of yours. Can't wait to see what's next.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the massive sale today too! Hopefully we'll get a chance to see sales like this with more tools now. Keep up the good work!
Freakin nice! And I was just falling in love with my Nibble...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the eye candy! I know there are a few more stacks of 50 somewhere! :)
Nice work!
Those two O-ring slots cut into the front of the top edge have me intrigued. A new sheath retention system?
ReplyDeleteJust a thumbrest design element but they echo the O ring grooves. They do also give the kydex sheath something additional to hold onto.
ReplyDeleteahah. simple and elegant ;).
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I hope I will be able to score one. My G2 Prybaby needs a friend.
ReplyDeleteAt first I was jealous of your shop full of tools, thinking i could do the same... But over and over again your new designs continue to amaze me. Even with punches, presses, grinders and sanders, i would never imagine some of your designs. Congrats on your sucussful business, you deserve it. I wouldn't be surprised if MOMA came knockin, asking for a few pieces for display. When are you gonna collab w/ spyderco or CRKT so I can actually 1. obtain one, 2. use one without fear of damage / loss.
ReplyDeletewell sir you have out done yourself again. I thought the nibble was the best design until I saw the sharktooth. Nice work man. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteyep , i need a SharkTooth asap!! will these by any chance have a satin finish?? great design Peter! Ed
ReplyDeleteAwesome new design Peter! Very cool blend of your old and new styles! Any chance you are ever going to bring back the strider stripes? Think these would look amazing with them! hint hint!
ReplyDeleteI've changed the way I do heat treating and finishing which is why I'm not doing Strider Style tiger stripes anymore. In my old simple oven I would get a black oxide film on my tools which provided a contrast for blasting on the stripes or other patterns. But with the larger batches (too big for my teeny oven) I send stuff out to a local shop for a professional heat treat and it comes back much cleaner and also tumbled. Their oven has a nitrogen atmosphere which minimizes scale formation.
ReplyDeleteSoon I will be sending out to a different company that has a vacuum oven. That will give me a better result yet and even less oxide formation. Results with their cryo quench will be pretty much exactly what you'd get with a Paul Bos heat treat.
That makes a lot of sense. Giving the best heat treat to the edged tool will definitely maximize the performance of the tool. Thanks for sharing the information with us Peter. There is so much behind a tool beside the design of form factor which we are able to observe by eyes.
ReplyDeleteOh Peter,
ReplyDeletethat is magnificent. I hope I'm not repeating any other questions, but does this awsome piece come with a protective cover on the blade. Maybe Kydex or something else? Super cool Tool man. Super cool Tool.
Peter! Thanks for the all the Ti Gasbabys you had to offer us. It took ALL my will power to only by one since it was the first time I went to the site and saw an available sign... I was checking this site for so long it was almost a shock to see it.. Almost a shock, but because I have been preparing for that moment I don't think you have ever had a paypal transaction that went at the speed of my purchase... Though I may have hesitated on the quantity for a split second, some sort of morality kicked in... I did not want to take a chance for someone else to buy one directly from you. Considering the 3 other atwoods that I managed to get from ebay (all for about $100, seemed to be legit sellers, not profit bastards), I am so happy to be able to get one directly from you.
ReplyDeleteThanks again. I look forward to my next Atwood purchase.
- Omer
W00T! I would love one of these. Well, fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteYep I think I need one of these!
ReplyDeleteHey Peter if you ever need an apprentice or just someone to boss around and do some simple grinding on tools I can move to help you out! Or clean up the shop.
:) I'm serious..........
Phillips driver, flat slotted driver, bottle opener, knife...all the features of the much larger and more complicated Leatherman tool knives...
ReplyDelete*Frothing at the mouth!*
ReplyDeleteI'm floored by the sheer awesomeness of this.
Peter i have to ask,is the sharktooth the sharkbite variant you talked about? Just wondering if the sharktooth is the pointy sticky tool or if you have another cutting tool in the works also? Man you make it hard to read between the lines:) Not complaining i think the tooth is great !! ed
ReplyDeleteAlmost forget to ask. Peter, what is the still going to be? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOops, my last post doesn't make any sense. Let me rephrase, what is the "steel" going to be?
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling Peter. Of all of your recent developments, this one really makes me wish I could get my hands on one.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you've made a big enough batch, because it would break my heart to miss out as I have on all your other stuff.
Outstanding!
Joe- I liked it. I wonder what someone with Peter's imagination could do with a still? ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this one Peter!!
The Atwood Still will go nicely with the Atwwod Drinking Tool!
ReplyDeleteMaybe an Atwood Spelcheckur would be good too.
ReplyDeleteWorking on them guys. I think we'll be seeing a top notch stonewashed finish on these. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's going to take a week or two to get them through heat treat and tumble and then another couple of weeks for sheaths so they are still a ways off...in the meantime I have other things coming and also I'll be starting more batches as well. Gotta keep 'em coming. :D
I freaking LOVE stone washed finish!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid I mention that the tanto shape and chisel grind of the SharkTooth looks totally badass!
ReplyDeletethanks for putting the Ti gasbabys out there. they were available for a LONG time.
ReplyDeleteIt took all the will power I had to not buy one. I thought about it over and over again and really can't see a reason for me to have a gas baby...I have a prybaby already...and I don't need the additional features :)
I can only hope that I'm lucky enough to be online when some of the other stuff is available.
Keep coming out with the cool stuff. The sharktooth looks awesome. Cheers.
No rush Peter take your time.
ReplyDeleteAt least it sorta looks like spring is finally here, so no mo snow! ^_^
I'll probably be far away by the time you finish em I think possibly... so you need to take a vacation and personally deliver them to me *wink*
LOL soupy I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that little thingy. Where's our drinking tool Peter? hehehe
I was gonna ask that the edges for the o-ring slots not be too sharp for those of us who like to carry them naked(no rings...I love it looks sooo industrial)...but I think possibly the stonewashed finish will gently round off the edges I'm hoping...?
Are there gonna be a few with right hand grinds on these? *wink wink nudge nudge* ^_^
