Bronze Whistles

Hi Folks,

Wow, it's been a crazy week between the flu and all the rest of it. Anyway, I'm back on track and getting stuff done in the shop this week finally. It's going to be Whistle Central around here for a few days with titanium coming next and then a big batch of brass. Then I have 5 Flute Lanslides coming in titanium and also some 5 flute beauties in copper which are running this afternoon. Bronze 5 flutes will run in a week or so, still waiting on the material which is why I had them run some copper ones while I had a little window of machine time.

Anyway, today I have the first wave of bronze Whistles done. When the rest of the bronze comes in next week they will run me some more of them but I have just three dozen at the moment. This is an aluminum bronze alloy and when freshly turned it doesn't look all that different from brass. However, it is more corrosion resistant, a little harder and it will develop a dark rich patina that is different than brass. I chose this material because the other grades that are available either are oil impregnated for use as bushing material or they have a high lead content for machinability so I thought this would be the best choice despite it's higher cost. You wouldn't really want the other grades in your mouth as a whistle.

So, bronze whistles will run $50 each plus shipping and the link is below:

Bronze are sold out, thank you!

  1. NOOOOOOOO!
I can't believe I missed these. I've been waiting for the bronze whistles. I guess I'll have to catch the next sale. Bronze and seawater just go hand-in hand.

  2. Interesting. I thought I'd be done after a brass whistle, but I might have to grab one of these too!

Very cool, copper and bronze Lanslide's are next on my list.

At least now I can get some work done and stop checking the site every 5 minutes!

Thanks Peter, can't wait to see the bronze after a few months on the key chain.

  11. I don't know if it is the background color or what, but the machining on the bronze whistle looks flawless!

Do you have one with patina yet?

  12. Thanks! Yeah, I love the background color on this shot.

I'm not going to do any patinas I decided. The reason is I'm not sure of the safety of the residues since a whistle is something you put in your mouth. If people want to play around with chemicals on their whistles then that is one thing, but I'm a little nervous doing so with something I'm selling. It may be perfectly safe but I just don't know... If I do want color then I have titanium which is totally safe. ;)

  13. Reading up on bronze and I like the properties about it. I think it will age better than the brass. I can't wait to see some pics with natural patina.
