The Atwood Business Cards encountered a glitch so will not be ready this week. Hopefully we'll get them squared away for next year.
As you can see the dingdongs left off the beginning and the end marks on the ruler scale. I purposely made a ruler scale that was supposed to be centered in the space on this tool. That way if the machine marked it a little to the left or right then it would not matter if it lined up with the end of the ruler or not. I had to trash a few of the rulers earlier this year because they missed a mark.
But, they used the files for the old rulers which do not have the end marks that we specifically created for the ABC. The end marks should be spaced one increment over on either end and they are the same length as the 1 and 2 hashmarks. Same thing on the reverse of the tool which is metric. However, they say that they can run them through again and add the marks so we'll see...this sample is bead blasted but I'm hoping most of them would end up stonewashed. Otherwise, it's a nice tool. :)
From the insert card:
The Atwood Business Card combines 21 wrench functions in a single wallet sized 420 stainless steel card tool. Features include six SAE sizes: ¼, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, ½, 9/16. Metric sizes include 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16mm in the center set and 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15mm in the righthand set. ¼ and 5/16 nut driver openings and 5/16 bottle opener are included. Two rulers complete the package.
thanks for the heads-up Peter. Happy Holidays to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! Now I can give my F5 key a rest! Have a good one, all...
ReplyDeleteAhh! no, was waiting for these! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteBah Humbug!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm so pissed...this is it for ruler projects. Everything always goes completely wrong....grrr...
ReplyDeletePeter: Sorry to hear about the ABCs. I've been poised like a crouching tiger waiting to pounce and place my order for one of these. Oh well, guess I'll just have to learn to wait patiently until NEXT YEAR!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for everything... and here'e hoping that my first purchase of 2010 is a shiny new ABC.
Anything in the plans to fill the void until the ABCs are ready?
Take care my friend!
I would love to see pictures of these. Are there some somewhere that I missed? Thanks.
ReplyDelete...Or a picture of what went wrong...?
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement! Any picture/concept scrawled in crayon on a syrup stained Denny's napkin would be GREAT to see!
ReplyDeletePeter, I am sorry to hear about the snafu. I know that you wanted to get these ready for everyone prior to the Holidays. Just out of curiosity, are you planning on anymore SUSales or regular sales prior to next week? I am asking this so we can know whether to let you have a well deserved break or bother you incessantly over the next few days. Even without a sale I am sure that we will probably still email you at regular intervals to get our Planet Pocket Tool fix. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think I probably will be taking a break. I do have a few odds and ends such as a half dozen more Three Slot SlotShots and also about 20 Five Slot SlotShots.
ReplyDeleteBut I had been planning to do a big sale with these card tools so now I'm completely derailed. However, with Christmas coming up and some family here for the holidays there is no shortage of distractions right now. So if anyone wants to email me on the shot glasses please do. Otherwise I think I'll just take a break for a few days and spend some time with the relatives...
I'll take one as is!
ReplyDeleteHey, Peter, before your trash guy carts off the rejects, I'll take a couple of them for... um. . . the collection.

The start of metric scale on my Ti Ruler is way off, too. I always thought this was intended to slowly convert the rest of the world to use the imperial system, too ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, sorry. Most were fine but some were off a hair and I didn't notice this until they were nearly sold out.
ReplyDeleteThose look awesome. I cant wait for them to fix it...what a bummer.
ReplyDeletethose look sweet, what wrench sizes are they?

ReplyDeleteYou know, if it can't be fixed, I'd still buy it...
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm talking about! Great pics...they look awesome as it is! Looking forward to the chance to nab one of these :D

Peter,
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. I had been wondering what you meant by a biz card . . .
Sorry for the frustrations. Maybe just means you are suppose to kick back and enjoy the holidays.
One Q: any problem carrying this on an airplane? I have had some problem with innocuous bike tools because some security screeners are of the opinion that ANY tool is prohibited in carry on luggage. (Just hate to think of losing an Atwood piece because it needed to be checked.)
feedback for Indy Fan: i fly a lot, and keep this page bookmarked on my iPhone in case anyone ever tries to give me trouble - ttp://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-

Good, it's just some missing hash marks. When you said there was a glitch, I thought it might have been something more serious. Like if they exploded upon contacting water.
ReplyDeletePetter I really like how where they're going.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY want one, just graduated over the weekend with my mechanical engineering degree and I think this would be a great gift to myself. I just hope I can snag one.

Hi Peter,
ReplyDeleteThese cards look great! Too bad about the rulers, but we get to drool for a while longer.
Could you please tell us the weight and thickness of the cards?
Thanks,
Ira
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIra, the thickness is .080, so a bit thicker than a standard pocket clip on a knife. Weight is 1.6 ozs. They are the same size and shape as a standard business card.
I want one of these ! :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing though, I wish it had a 17mm wrench size too. It is one of the most common used in the metric system.
Happy christmas to you all !

ReplyDeleteThank you for that web page. I had my bicycle tool in my hold baggage but lost some hex bits because they were tools. The bicycle tool was menaced at Amsterdam airport and the prospect of losing it was awful.
The ABC looks wonderful; would love one.
Looks like a GREAT little tool, looking forward to (hopefully) nabbing one!
ReplyDeletePeter looking forward to whenever you get these done now rest up with the family! Happy New Year!!!! Gary :>)
ReplyDeleteare these going to be for sale despite the ruler problems?
ReplyDeleteYes, I have a portion of the batch that is now fixed and saleable and I will be posting them Monday afternoon.
