I have a batch of stonewashed ti rulers ready to go. These will are plain, no anodizing. The finish is bright with a zillion little scratches and the contrast with the numbers and scales is really nice. These will wear wonderfully for years to come. ReplyDeleteThanks, that's ok. I'm a big fan of stonewashed stuff, please when you get around to producing the Kelpie\Nessie do one in stonewashed for me... As for now, I'm content with sipping from my Big Shot and dreaming about one day owning a Atwood blade. :)
OK, that's cool. :) There will not be a Kelpie though. Or at least not quite like the one I had in the drawing last year. I was not happy with the finger protection on that design. We shall see what the future brings though. ;)

ReplyDeletePeter, For the bigshots that are coming via general release soon can you give us an update on other drinking tools in the works so we can make a decision to purchase or not?
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is that I want to purchase more drinking tools. If there is only going to be the ones as previously released than I will purchase some that are soon to be released. If there are also going to be be some of a different knurling pattern (unless those are only going to be by lottery) I might hold out or if you are going to move forward with the "tallshot" (a name I have been calling the previously mentioned possibility or a smaller diameter but as tall or taller drinking tool) I might save some of my pennies for those. I realize these other variations might be further in the future but I only have 2 hands to drink with anyway.
So what do you think, Peter. Will you be anodizing the remaing Ti Rulers this week or is plain the flavor for the remaining pieces..

ReplyDeleteYup, this is typical. Anytime I ever say I'll have a sale at such and such a time something comes up. Tonight is no exception. Tons of things came up all day long and I never got the blasted rulers done today. So it will be tomorrow...sorry guys.

ReplyDeleteI love your work, Peter. Great stuff, but I was wondering... do you ever make tools in metric? That's what I need. (I realize this ruler has a centimeter scale, but I'm talking about those wrench type tools you make)
ReplyDeleteI made some metric G4 Prybabies around Christmas last year. I plan to make more G4s at some point and will do some in metric. Also the FunnyBones have both a metric and Imperial wrench sets.

ReplyDeleteI'm American as well, but a lot of things I work on use metric fasteners. Like ALL bicycles, even the ones, "Made in the USA", for instance.
I would love if I only had to have one or the other, but I've always had to own tool sets in both S.A.E. and Metric.

ReplyDeleteGritter: Best chance for a tool like the Funnybone is probably ebay, unfortunately. I don't think that there have been any new releases from Peter for those in a while, nor have I seen them mentioned. But I see them from time to time on there.

ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I like best about your work Peter is that it is idiosyncratic. Whatever comes out of your shop is interesting, partly because it is not driven by a marketing team's survey of what people think a tool should look like. Whatever measuring system you want to use, so be it! You have been batting 1000 with your designs in my book, and I wouldn't want to second guess your methods. Although if you start making tools measured in Norwegian "skrupels" it might be harder to find a use for them around the house :)
ReplyDeleteFor purely selfish reasons, I do have to second Gritter's comment on the metric-ness of the bike world though. I've been fortunate to have purchased metric a few times when you have offered it. Even aside from your great bike-tool, many of your tools are so perfect for mobile bike work, being super compact and lightweight, and of course, virtually indestructible. I am never on a ride without a couple of Atwood tools, and I have found that it is easier to use them at home over traditional hand tools for certain bike tasks (hard to reach places, odd angles, etc). I would have to say that 60% to 70% of my Atwood tool use is on bikes, and is in metric. Here is a wee vote for some metric inclusion on a few of your future projects those of us who bike on a regular basis.

I hope to score a G3 when they are complete. They look to be useful for so many different chores. I don't think the next round of G3's will be XL, so hang on to that gem!
