Full Size SOPThings

All gone guys, thank you!

Stonewashed finish, a couple with black cord, rest with steel blue cord.
Not enough available to make a sales page.

I'm sorry to say that Mini Son of PryThings will not be available next week after all. Upon further inspection in better light this morning I decided to redo them all yet again and add them to the growing batch to be sent for DLC. Pissed me off as I had already cord wrapped some of them but these remaining ones just didn't look good enough to me to release.

The problem with the MSOPTHings and the Boogers is that they are so small and light that when they are in the tumblers, they tend to "float" to the top rather than sink lower in the bowl of ceramic media. As a result they may not get the necessary crushing force of tons of stone on top of them which is what gives you the wearing, deburring and "stonewashed" effect. So many of them looked a little underdone compared to pieces with more mass such as a Prybaby.

  1. Got one on the last batch so I will leave these to everyone else. They are fantastic and you will not regret your purchase.

  4. I guess I don't understand this new purchasing model. All day I patiently waited for an announcement that SOPThings are now available. Instead I see this latest post stating "All gone guys". So when you pre-announced them yesterday I was supposed to order one via email yesterday?

  6. I had ten, I announced them and two minutes later I had 30 emails. I'm sorry but what do you suggest I do? Wish I had 200 of these because I could probably sell every damn one of them. But I did not, I'm sorry.

  7. I sent Peter an Email but I haven't received word that I have gotten one!? I emailed you before you edited your post. Please send emails out to those who have sent you one.

  8. I'm at a loss. The pingie didn't come through to my cell until 30 minutes after your post. The pingie at my email showed up about 30 seconds after you posted. The previous email had a time stamp that preceeded your post by 10 minutes...go figure.
Just to be clear, was there a link posted here as they were available and then removed as they sold out?
I'm in no way complaining, I just want to be clear on what is happening so I can adjust my strategy, and kill pingie for taking so long to get to my phone.
Oh, and thanks for the resource recommendations Peter. I got one of the two books this past weekend.

  9. Peter,

Sorry, I hadn't refreshed to see your response to a similar question. My view is, you do it how you want to and we will conform. If you post availability, we should email you then? In this case the first 10 got first dibs and you contact them on how to proceed with payment? Am I understanding this correctly?

  10. Maybe you should stop relying on your beloved "pingie" POS and just check the damn page yourself like the rest of us do.

  11. You are correct, I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple of people until I contact the next one in order of the way they were received.

Guys, I have had 50 emails here in about 10 minutes so I'm sorry there aren't more knives available. If I had had 40 of these I could have turned on the buy now button but I didn't I only had 10. If I have a bunch of something I will create a buy now button and post the link but when there are only a couple of something that so many people want I don't want to sell 50 of them before I have a chance to turn off the buy now button. See what I mean?

  13. Peter,

Thats perfect. I appreciate all you do and have zero criticism for how you operate. Its enough to see what you come up with and waiting for an update is like Christmas. I am sure most here agree.

Anonymous, I do both. But like most, I like to use all tools available to me and don't have the luxury of checking personal email every five minutes; I actually have a job. You can keep the attitude while I improvise, overcome, and adapt.

  14. I was fortunate enough to have a friend on the EDC forum offer his SoPT to me. I'll have to say that these are really cool little knives! Sorry to those who really wanted one of these and missed out. Watch the forums because they come up for trade or sell occasionally.

I would suggest that if someone is really interested in snagging a knife or tool from Peter not to rely on Pingie or Zaptxt! These notifications take longer than a few minutes in my experience. My guess is that those who were able to email Peter within a few minutes were manually refreshing the blog. Maybe I'm wrong?

  15. Peter, if we had our way, we would have you working 24/7 so we could get all the toys we want. I've always felt the hunt was part of what makes your tools so collectible. You don't need to apologize for being successful...

  16. I second what Jeff said...

  21. One of these days maybe you'll talk your hosting provider into letting you use a real shopping cart. The sort where you can specify how many you have of something (50, 10, 2, whatever) and the "buy" button disappears after that many clicks and is replaced by a "sorry, sold out" message. Seems like it would be easier to manage, but if you have something that works for you then stick with it.

I missed out on the sopt, but I'm really hoping for a dlc booger, so that's probably ok.

  22. I got the last one!!! My email was super short in order to save time... I cannot believe there were 9 people faster than I was... It is unreal. Anyways, I have been coveting one of these for a long time and always faced missed opportunities... till now! Thanx Peter!!!

  23. I 2nd the call for Peter to work 24/7

While your at it you should change your sales model to suit each poster individually & as a final touch, deliver each piece personally

    That should keep everyone happy.

  26. Peter - setup an Etsy shop. It's super easy, will let you take order from PayPal or whatever you want, and will give you better control of what's available when.

Contact me if you need any assistance.

  27. I see why "anonymous" (anonymous II?)is just that. Pingie? This is the 3rd in a row I wasn't even contacted at all. Blue skies and calm winds to all.

  28. This is a situation where demand outstrips supply by enough of a margin that there's just always going to be some luck involved. If you're trying to win a radio call-in contest, or score front-row seats for a concert, it's the same thing. Persistence, patience, and luck will be involved. Don't get so angry about it...

The only things that will fix this are either a) the popularity of Peter's tools dropping precipitously (not likely any time soon), or b) Peter shifting to some mass-production arrangement, which he has repeatedly said doesn't interest him, and that's totally his choice.

Keep in mind that Peter is not doing this to annoy you, he simply makes designs that interest him, at a reasonable speed, and then posts them for sale. When Prybabys, Atwrenches, and Nibbles were on the site last month, they were up for sometimes hours at a time. Lately he's been finishing off some odd lots that have been shelved for a while, so we're seeing these little sales of 5 or 10 items at a time. When there's 10 of something, and a couple hundred people who want one, they're going to sell blindingly fast.

Personally, though I find SoPTs and friends to be ingenious, intriguing, and pretty, I've passed on all of them, because I always carry a full-size folding knife, so am more interested in his non-sharp tools (looking forward to the G3Prybaby-with-screwdriver).

Peter, keep doin' what you're doin', man :)
