Drum Roll, Drum Roll!

OK, the winning number for the Talonite Mini Son of PryThing is:

#127 lance101010

An email has been sent.

Thanks so much folks, more goodies soon. BTW, I have to say that I was astounded to see 275 people express interest in this and enter for a chance to buy this piece. Amazing and humbling. :)

  4. Peter,

This is really like BINGO, only one person can call BINGO and 274 yell out CRA_. Sooo the solution is to go to your room and produce 274 more of the Talonite Mini Son of PryThing's and make one available to each entry, and everyone is happy. :)=

  6. Wow, 275 entries! I can only see it getting more and more crowded as more and more people learn about the lotteries. This was a pretty special piece though. I just hope that it doesnt' start getting out of hand with hundreds of people vying for every offering.
But it is kind of fun for now.

  7. First of all congratulations to the winner!
I'd like to know if there are any plans for tools or knives using Talonite or other "exotic" materials?
I'm really interested in new materials and coatings, thus I'm eager on the new DLC stuff. Did you consider testing Titanium nitride* coatings on some of your tools yet? Might be a nice alternative to DLC.

    Looking forward to new pieces!

  8. No, not suprising at all. It's just greed. EVERYONE realizes they can trade or flip it for way more than you're charging. That's why the interest. Face it, NO ONE is actually going to USE a talonite MSOP, particularly one that's finished and with a blade. First, the finish will scratch or rub off. Second Talonite, as a material sucks, particularly for a tool. Unless you're going to use it for a diving tool in saltwater, it's incredibly lame. Hardness is poor and resharpening is virtually impossible without a grinder. Anyone who has ACTUALLY tried to sharpen Talonite will attest to the edge literally falling off a blade with stones or ceramic.

  9. Well that's just not true buddy. Sorry but I have to disagree completely with your characterization of it as a poor material. And also you are completely wrong that the patterning will come off, it is deeply etched into the metal. And lastly, the material sharpens rather easily if you do it with fine sandpapers as I outline in my mousepad sharpening video. Perhaps you need to hone some new sharpening skills and give it a try before shooting your mouth off.

  10. What about having a raffle sometime? I know that this could be a pro and a con for both sides. Just an idea.

  11. you know, I posted anonymously one time (to beg for someone to trade a whistle for another atwood tool or two) just because I was too lazy to join blogger.
But spewing vitriol from behind an anonymous moniker is just not constructive.
Perhaps, Peter, you should not post anonymous posts anymore, maybe the cowards would show themselves or leave...

  12. I tried that before and got all kinds of flack. But I just turned it back on and we'll try it again. From now on you have to be a registered user, no more anonymous comments. Sorry guys, but I've had it with these angry, non productive comments.

  13. Thanks Peter, I love EDC forum and reading here as well...hobby is supp be fun

  14. Peter you have my support. Anonymous comments all too frequently become ready vehicles for anger and hostility devoid of content.

  15. Hey anonymous: it's like watching TV. If you don't like it, change the channel. I think you enjoy stirring up the pot, so to speak. So I expect to always see you around. I grew up with guys like you--no big deal as an adult either. Tulsa, OK

  16. Hey Anonymous, if thats your real name.. =P You will have another chance at a knife from Peter. No need to get angry. You should be happy for the person who got it. Talonite is some Rad stuff. It is very hard, and holds a great edge.. Silly.

also, greed runs this world. Ya, I said it. But, signing up to have a chance to buy a great little knife is not greed. I would use it, and maybe I am a scuba diver. Maybe not.

  17. Peter,

Glad you're filtering the anonymous posts. I've never had a talonite tool, but I did some research on it. This site seemed to have the most credible view of thelot.

  18. That piece really was a piece of functional art. I just wish I could afford something like that, which was why I didn't participate in the lottery. Hopefully, though you will soon come up with something in greater numbers and in a price range I can reach. =-]

Keep up the good work and Anonymous posters Begone!

  19. Congrats to Lance! Thought about entering, but I've got some funds earmarked for another obsession right now, but man that talonite MSOP looks awesome! Great job, Peter - looking forward to seeing more great items roll out and maybe I'll be lucky enough to grab one. You do realize you now have a cult following of sorts, but for good reason. As for Anonymous' comments, that's just sad. i for one would never enter such a lottery if I didn't plan on keeping and USING an Atwood creation, but that's just my 2c. And commenting in such a way without knowledge of what you are saying, well, someone needs to do some research first.

  21. Yeah, you might PLAN on using it-until you get one of his "specials". Then you keep it in your gun vault , take it out to covet it for a short while (or until you hear the wife coming; she never seems to find them as valuable as you do). If you want one for regular use, you better go for a "big run" piece. And could you take the hit on a loss? Its not like you can just order another one! Being a total capitalist, I admit sometimes I do get irritated about his lack of supply, but when you hold his stuff, well, it helps you understand. Its an Atwood thing!
