More Anodizing Fun

These were a blast to do! The Splash Anodizing is a rather tedious process but the results are really cool. Well worth the extra effort I think. Each piece is totally unique and I tried to make the patterns as crazy as possible. Good stuff. Because it is time consuming there is a very limited number available so I'd like to keep it to one per customer.

Will be putting the batch on the site tomorrow along with some plain Bermuda Triangles with stonewash finish for the less adventurous. :D

  1. The Stonewashed ones are very nice too. I always like Stonewashed tools and blades, because scratches dont show up. Great work my friend!!

  6. Awwwww dang....I missed the BT's. I've been relying on EDC FOrums to keep me updated, but they've pretty much been down for 3-4 days.

Oh well, I guess I'll try to catch the next little gem you grind out...

  7. Peter, that splash ano is seriously cool! And so is the Burmuda Triangle. Congrat.'s on a really cool design!

  8. ".I missed the BT's. I've been relying on EDC FOrums to keep me updated, but they've pretty much been down for 3-4 days."

Even when it's up EDCforums has turned uber anti Atwood IMO. You can't really talk about Atwoods in any threads or they warn you and delete your thread :/

Awesome work with the anodizing Peter, can't wait for mine to get here :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Anti Atwood? On EDCF? I think it's more that they want to keep things organized on the forum and are bothered by the zillions of head's up posts...maybe I'm wrong and if so let's get to the bottom of this right now.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I have to agree that EDC forums has gotten rediculous. There were too many threads about In Stock items and it should have been limited but now they actually dictate what you can and can't say within the ONE thread pertaining to availability!! Then they close that thread as well. I was really enjoying the comments about those who scored items as well as adding my own comments as well. Now it cannot even be discussed. This has to be the worst moderator of all time and definitely one who has no love for the Atwood arena at all.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's not an Atwood thing.
In the thread "edcforums.com|The MarketPlace|Buy + Sell + Trade|Good Finds" that was there just for heads up notices the moderators state why: too much offtopic tuff showed up. Read:
"Apparently, the earlier warnings weren't enough for a few people. I've had to remove more off-topic posts this evening."

    ReplyDelete
  12. you are able to talk about them all you want but just not in the good finds forum. keep it in the keychain tools or knives forums.

    ReplyDelete
  13. My opinion? There is a zealous moderator at EDCF who is taking an authoritarian approach toward Atwood posts, particularly those regarding availability. He is locking a lot of Atwood-related threads and threatening posters who don't comply. I don't think he's anti-Atwood. However he does appear to be angry about noncompliance to his guidelines, which are quite strict, and is willing to use his moderator powers to enforce fewer posts.

  14. "you are able to talk about them all you want but just not in the good finds forum. keep it in the keychain tools or knives forums."

Sadly, not true. You can't discuss availability in the keychain tools forum--which is what many of us are interested in. I've been participating for some time and the EDCF rules are difficult to understand at times. Also, I've seen lots of old posts with "BANNED" on the user names, so apparently EDCF bans users and censors rather freely. It's an odd forum in terms of the amount of control exercised.

Of course, anybody could post another forum devoted to tool availability, it's easy to do...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, I just read the posts and guidelines that Ray put out. Seems very reasonable and straightforward to me. I think some of these things are a little out of hand don;t you think? I have tons of stuff coming all the time so people should just chill out a little bit, they will get a chance to get things if they just take it easy. Personally I wish people would stop posting the head's up threads on the forums and just GO EASY. Thanks!

  16. EDCF is all about Atwood. There has just been alot of new people that have been very excited, and very upset all at the same time, about scoring and not scoring a tool from peter. Every time any bit of info pops up, there are multiple threads about it, and they just want to keep the Atwood heads up into one thread.

Peter is a rock star over there. =)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Personally, I like to see who scored what, and to know which tools came and went while I was otherwise occupied. Also I have scored a couple tools because I was reading EDCF while a head's up was posted. I just don't see why those sorts of posts are a problem, and why they irritate the EDCF moderators so badly. Also I have a philosophical problem with shutting down discussions that people want to have. My 2 cents.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I did not mean to start such a commotion over EDCForums BUT I just reread what codeman posted in the ONLY "updatable" Peter Atwood Thread.

    He's now puninshing Atwood posters...

"Let's try closing the thread for a while. Assuming that no one violates the rule about creating new threads about Atwood tool availability, I'll re-open the thread later. If such threads are created, that will simply lengthen the time this thread is closed."

    EDCF bookmark deleted :(

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't get it. IMHO the moderator is just trying to put some order in the posts regarding availability of Atwood's tools. We still have plenty of threads at EDCF to discuss them and share photos, i.e the Atwoodites thread, the Collectors thread, the Wishlist thread... even a thread to gripe when we miss a batch or share the joy when we score a piece. Where's the problem? All we have to do is post in the right thread.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that locking the availability thread was a bit harsh, but the rules were clear.

BTW, the availability thread has been re-opened.

    ReplyDelete
  20. why would you check the edc forum for an atwood tool avalibility? i just check this site :) seems simple "avaliable tools" i go on the edcf to talk about stuff and i come to this site to buy tools. peter set this up to be straight forward, and posting on another site seems a bit odd to me. but i am odd aswell

    ReplyDelete
  21. oh i forgot to post about the BT. im kinda glad the BT's are sold out. i had to reorganize my priorties 1.food and water 2. Atwood tools 3. shelter. Sorry peter i hope you understand. lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. They have some SERIOUS moderation issues over there. They lock threads to punish groups of people and have outright banned some of their best contributors for minor "infractions" (if you can even call them that) without so much as a warning of any sort.

I deleted their bookmark months ago. Sick of their extremely heavy-handed, unreasonable moderating.

    ReplyDelete
  23. EDCF has been pro Atwood, but the moderators have turned me off. It was my "home" forum, but I rarely visit there any more. Other places seem much more friendly and tolerant of the many personalities forums seem to gather. I agree with Logan, I check Peter's site for availability.

Peter IS a rock star on MANY forums! And it is well-deserved!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have to agree, I'm getting turned off of EDCF because of the heavy-handed moderation. I'm deleting my bookmark for them, and will come here instead. I really don't understand the reasons for censoring someone whose post is, "I got one! Woohoo!" Neither do I understand locking a thread to punish all posters, and threatening further lockdowns if anyone dare start a similar thread elsewhere. Serious power trip issues at EDCF if you ask me. I refuse to be treated that way. I'm gone.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Come on guys. This is Peter's thread. We can discuss EDCF elsewhere. I'm sure we're all just a bit upset that EDCF has been down quite a bit here lately but the guys and gals that run the place are awesome people just trying to look out for the masses (even if that occasionally seems as though they are punishing the masses because of a few).

I don't think any of us disagree that Peter's tools are awesome so let's get back to discussing those. It's definitely more interesting than discussing why we can't have discussions about them in another forum. :)

So...how about them Bermuda Triangles? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've got a splash one coming and can't wait to see it. Looks awesome in the pics and everyone will be somewhat unique.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have to say that the Bermuda Triangles make me drool more than a little bit. My perference is for the stonewashed (I'm not adventurous), but the splashy ones are so hypnotic!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Actually, heathah, no...Jon needs to be made aware of what people think about his moderation staff and their heavy-handed tactics. If this many people express that they're seeing problems, he should know about it. It can't be brought up there because...that's right! Whoever does it will get BANNED! I think Peter has been very gracious to allow comments on this. I do not want to speak for him, but I believe a great deal of people here that have expressed problems with edcf are only doing so because they remember before when people weren't permanently banned for posting something a moderator disagreed with.

It would be nice if Jon were man enough to actually do something about the problem, but I doubt that will happen. Sometimes, people just don't have the courage to admit there is a problem and take action to correct it.

If he really wants to foster goodwill, he could unban those members that had been banned for minor things. That would be a good start. Even then, I'm not sure I would ever go back there until I'm convinced the problems are resolved with the bannings at the drop of a hat. It is very problematic to be in mid-trade with someone and find out they've been banned and they'll never get your PM.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I got a "rules warning" from the global moderator, because puting some disorder in EDCF, but now all Atwood threads are open again, so nothing bad has happened. I will stay also EDCF addicted ;-) And intend to make something for the next giveaway. So , I hope see you soon on EDCF.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Very cool Funky Triangles!!!!!! I got mine today. I love it. Thanks Peter!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm sorry for participating in semi thread hijack, but Peter did say, "Let's get to the bottom of this right now." We really can't discuss this on EDCF...the rules at EDCF state that if you openly question a moderator, you will be banned. (Wow.) At one point I politely requested that some posts, with useful or interesting information, be allowed to remain, and was warned that I would be banned for making that request, as it was seen as questioning authority. (Wow.) Whereas most forums are democratic and egalitarian, EDCF is...currently otherwise.

Anyway, thanks Peter for allowing us to vent. Back on topic, love the stone-wash finish, and would be interested to know how that's accomplished. Can I stonewash some of my tools by tossing them in a tumbler with some rocks? Or more complicated than that?

    ReplyDelete
  32. This iron fist moderating is ridiculous. I'd ask the moderators questions about why this is happening on EDC, but I don't want to get banned. He locked the availability thread again after a new member with only about a dozen posts made a comment in it. The long standing members seem to get it, but the new members who haven't got a feel for the forum and how it runs are being treated like hardened criminals for their simple enthusiasm, and everyone is getting punished for their innocent mistakes. I've been a member for a few months, thanks to finding the site via Peter, but I feel like I'm living in a police state while I'm online there. No one can voice their concerns though, unless they want to get banned.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1st of all, I would like to ask if will be there more triangles (stonewashed)?

The moderators SHOULD have done that a LONG time ago. It was a complete disorganization, because multiple users just KEPT posting about how frustrated they were about not getting the atwood tools in the INAPROPRIATE SECTION (SALES).

That is a sell/buy section, not a talk section. So one of the MODS just took hand on that mess(defined that can only post if tools are available and when they are sold), and made rules clear so everybody can see in that thread if actually the tools are right NOW available or not (impossible few days earlier) for the atwood thread INSIDE THE.

I just needed to read ONCE, to understand! And that helped all the users.

There are OTHER sections in the forum where the atwood can be discussed, but NOT in the informative SALES, specially becuase most of the posts didn't have actuall interest for the information on availability itself.

Also, joining up in a forum that is owned (and PAID) by moderators and administrators implies in the registration that you have to comply with the rules.

And as a user of EDCforum, I think they just did the right thing, so any user now can go there and check if there now available tools or not. And if anyone go to atwoods site and see if there is a sale, he can go post to inform that is something on sale.

  34. Wow...whatever the forums setup is that is making everyone upset, seems kind of silly to me. Excuse my ignorance about whatever sort of offsite notification people are going on about but geez, Peter has stated he will be making more of certain items. Sounds great and just wanted to add my admiration of the triangles - really great idea and the colors are a nice touch.

  35. Received the BT yesterday. Extremely nice. It acts perfectly as a "thinking triangle". My fingers can't stop playing it when they are free. Thanks so much Peter!

    ReplyDelete
  36. OK, I just had to test it. I wanted to know how the triangle feels and works when used as a defensive tool. So I punched some cardboard with it to see what the damage is. Got two findings here. First, it's effective. In other words, it's mean. It didn't take much force to put a nice clean rectangular hole on the board. I am convinced that it's going to hurt if the sufferer is something that can feel. Second, it's comfortable to use. I tried to hit harder on the cardboard and my fingers didn't really feel a thing. I was kinda thinking that the fingers might hurt when using the BT to punch things. Although I didn't punch a really hard object, the card board has proven enough for me. Peter, the Bermuda Triangle IS a winner. Congrats and thanks to you!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm glad to hear about you testing the BT as an impact device. I thought about it an thought I might possibly break a finger if I smacked something hard... your finding make me want to test it now. Thanks for posting!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks for testing the BT Joe. I was curious to see how it would work. It seems to line up nicely on your finger when you close your fist though.

    ReplyDelete
  39. HEH. I was thinking the same thing. I dont want to break my finger. haha.

    Stop the Violence!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. It is kind of cool, because you can use the flat side, or the angle side of the triangle to punch. If you use the point, it might really hurt someone. Like skull fracture, and brain hemorage. Do you really want to hurt someone that bad, let alone hurt someone at all...??

IF someone comes to attack me, the last thing on my mind would be pulling out my triangle and sticking it on my finger. "oh hey... he has a gun and wants my money. Hold on a sec... I gotta put this on my finger and try to punch him." haha. oh no.

No, it is a very cool tool, and can be used as a self defense tool. It just seems like sometimes people look for reasons to defend themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Guys, remember, these are bottle openers and multi wrench tools, nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Peter, will you get another batch of the bead blasted ones or even satin finished ones coming? Stone-washed finish is definitely my favorite, but I would love to grab a different finish or two into my collection.

My hands have been playing the BT in the last few hours. I even discovered some new ways to fiddle it. Seriously, I need some help to get it off.

BTW, tonight I'm gonna test another function of the BT, beer opening!! Friday night!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, it is fun to spin on your fingers. It makes a great keychain too. I have had alot of people ask me about mine. I have a goblin attached to my keys also, so I dont know which one they see first. I think the boogers are the ultimate keychain. If you are in a car accident and need to cut your belt, you can just grab it from the kydex. I hope that never happens though, but it is good to be prepared.

Plus, you never realize how handy it is to have an edged tool with you always, until you start to cary one, and then forget it one day.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In a matter of days I've been fortunate enough to get my hands on a bike tool and a stonewashed bermuda triangle.

Peter, I remain in awe of your tool-crafting talents.

I really wish I could resist fiddling around with this bermuda triangle.

    ReplyDelete
  45. so peter, i had a splashed bt in my cart, but had to resist... bank account was near the bottom!! lol, so whats on the menu for this week, need to know if i need to put my son up on ebay, hear 8 year old kids are fetching good bids these days!! lmao!!

  46. Hello Mr. Atwood, I don't know if there are really any "Anti-Atwood" moderators in EDCF but there are some moderators that stick to their guns. There's a thread on availiblitiy of your work and when I purchased one of your tools (I was Very lucky!) I posted that I was a new lucky owner of your work and anounnced that they are still availible in stock. Well the thread was locked up within minutes, and moderator's reason to locking it up clued into my post being the third strike on disregauarding the rules of the thread of the Original post. It was my mistake so I sent an apology to the mod and the thread was reactivated later on that day.

Alot of posts pop up when your tools become "In Stock" and I can see why EDCF would want to avoid the clutter of all this.

It is difficult to avoid posting about availiblity of your tools though given the nature of your works of art, limited quantity and the good nature of our fellow EDC'ers wanting others to know about it to share the wealth.

    -D

  47. I dint know rules over at EDCF where so strict, I was handling what I think was a pretty decent "Atwoods available" thread, but I let it die because of the reason the mods deciode to close all the others, too many copies of the same thing... Now I read the rules for posting on the new official thread and found them strict yet reasonable. I even asked the mod to leave some of the "wrong" comments on the thread or just plain out edit them since , it got a little bit incoherent after he deleted the comments and closed the thread. I didnt get any ban warnings, and he agreed to pen up the thread again.. It did got a little bit cluttered in there with all the availability threads, modding was necessary , yet the stricness of it may have ticked off some members..sad situation.

  48. Back to the triangle :-),
    I guess,
triangle is like the A of Atwood,
    isn'it ?

  49. Peter- Thanks for the great gadgets. Maybe some of the hype will slack off soon. Just keep making great stuff!!

Rest of us- But I'm a tiny bit confused. I've only been aware of Peter's stuff for a short time and I've gotten several items (I don't even know exactly what a robot is but I can probably guess). :) As to the EDC rules. They seem pretty straightforward to me. I wonder what all the fuss is about. If it is ok with Peter what are we worried about. :)

Hint: Put a link to the "available tools" space on your tool-bar and it just isn't that hard to find some stuff (um, and maybe sharing isn't that bad. I missed a few things- they pop up a few days later on ebay for double the price. Sad.)
    Peace yall!

  50. PLEEEEEEEEASE tell me there will be more tropical prybabies and such available...please please?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sweet "one of a kind" section you added. Its awesome and slightly depressing at the same time. Thanks for sharing that.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The EDCF issue that keeps coming up here is not about EDCF's ability to set rules, as some posters here seem to think. The issue is that one moderator is unilaterally shutting down threads in an attempt to punish a large community of Atwood fans into submission...these are Atwood fans who use the EDCF threads to monitor activity. Sometimes these shut-downs are initiated when newbies innocently post a happy "Got one!" The moderator over-reacts, shuts down the thread, and we all pay the price. That's what's got us old timers unhappy...the punative shut-downs and the fact that even those who play by the new rules, suffer. Also it is a guessing game as to what is allowed in a post, and what isn't. I have stopped posting for fear of getting arbitrarily banned, which has happened to others.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Peter… not that I want to keep you from making more great tools but, I would love to see more how to videos or even Photos of your original concept drawings for the prybaby.

  54. I love seeing conceptual designs. It's interesting to see how something evolves from concept to final production model. A concept gallery would be a great addition to you website!
