Brass Whistles

Happy Sunday! They have the football playoffs starting late today so it seems like a good time to have a brass whistle sale. :) I have this first wave completed and there are more that are nearly done so I'll be able to have a second sale as well in a day or so. As always, thank you for stopping in and hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Sold Out for now, thank you!

Larva Tools with Stamps

Happy Weekend Everyone! It's going to be ridiculously cold here this weekend with overnight highs at -20F by Sunday. Brrrr....nothing better to do than get some stuff done in the shop. :)

I have the last of the Larva batch done today. These all have images from my vast antique diemaker stamp collection. Images include the bee, tiny boat, crescent moon, various leaves, gnat, sword hilt, tiny anchor, shamrock and many many others. Most of the Larva are stamped with different images so it's going to be a random sale, meaning I will send you whatever I send you. They are all pretty cool though.

For those who don't know what these are, these very rare handmade and handcarved 19th century steel stamps were used by an English diemaker as the master dies to make complex hallmark stamps for various companies and industries, probably in the tool and knifemaking center of Sheffield, England judging from some of the markings. I try to use them sparingly as many are small and delicate and I have no idea how long they will last using them on these modern tool steels. Anyway, by incorporating these very old images in my tools this is a unique way for me to bridge the centuries and maintain an unusual connection with the past. Fun stuff!

Sold Out, thank you!

More Larva Tools

Hi Folks,

Tough week this past week...a huge snow storm followed by another good sized storm followed by a miserable ice storm has kept me busy and sore. Sometimes I do wonder why I stay in New England. I've always heard that the bad winters build character but I can tell you I already have enough character for two people! :D

Anyway, I have another batch of Larva tools done. These are the plain ones with raw bar finish and are $45 each plus shipping. I will have more coming in the next day or so with stamps on them and then a rather large batch of brass whistles is nearly done and ready as well so lots of goodies are on the way.

Sold out, thank you!

Bronze Lanslides with Rifle Knurl

Hi Everyone,

Tonight I have the first wave of Bronze Lanslides with Rifle Knurling ready to go. These are the full sized 1/2" diameter ones like the original titanium run from last year, not the mini size which are 3/8" in diameter. These turned out just gorgeous, some of the best of any Lanslides that I have done I think. In fact I need to stash a few away for my own use before they are all gobbled up. :) Anyway, these are the usual $15 each and the purchase link is below...this is a first wave and I will have another good sized bunch of them coming at some point.

Sold out for now, thank you again!

Bronze 5 Flute Lanslides

Hi Folks,

I'm back. :) There's a lot of stuff going on right now but I'm trying to get back on track here...today I have bronze 5 Flute Lanslides available.

I keep getting new people asking what a Lanslide is so I'll give the description again: Lanslide beads are to be used as zipper pulls for jackets and bags. Or they can be used as lanyard beads for tools, knives and flashlights. Some people have even added them to their Pandora bracelets, etc. I make them in a variety of materials, patterns and finishes. Next up for Lanslides will be full sized bronze with rifle knurl (they are spectacular), and 5 Flute pattern in virgin white Teflon. I hope to get some more semi translucent olive green G10 ones done pretty soon as well.

In other news, I have a major batch of brass whistles underway and will have them done soon in addition to more titanium whistles. And I have the rest of the Larva tools to finish up in the next few days...also, I have more titanium Mini Brewdrivers coming in a week or two. G5 Prybabies just need a few hours of my time and I can get them out to heat treat, same with the upcoming CrocoNut SAE Wrench tools. And I am actively working on developing at least four brand new products for later this winter. There are more S30v Poltergeists coming pretty soon as well in both the regular size and in the Mini Ghost size. I just need to buckle down and get going on all this stuff.

Five Flute Bronze are Sold Out, thank you!

Mini Blue Lanslides

Hi Folks,

Hope your holidays were good! Mine were quite busy and I took some days off to get caught up on paperwork and also just to goof off. We went to the Patriots vs. Miami game last week and took a little day trip out to Boston another day. It was good but now I'm attempting to get back into work mode.

Today I have some Mini Rifle Knurl Lanslides ready. These are titanium and they have blue anodizing. I'll be doing some more stuff next week and there is a lot of different stuff in the pipeline so stay tuned. Thanks!

Sold Out, thank you!

Rest of the Copper Lanslides

Howdy Folks,

Hope your Christmas was a fun one! We had a nice time with our family and everyone managed to get home safely just before all the snow hit and the flights were canceled.

Anyhow, I'm scrambling to get a few more sales ready before the end of the year. I'll have to shut down for a few days at New Years to catch up on paperwork and do my inventory stuff...not looking forward to that but it has to be done every year. It will be a good time to take a few days off as well and just plain take it easy.

Well today I have the end of the copper 5 flute Lanslide batch finished up. I probably won't be doing these again so this will be it for them. I will have some bronze 5 flute ones coming up next though and eventually some pure white virgin teflon ones although those might not be done until January. Lots of cool stuff is coming though so stay tuned. :)

Sold out, thanks again!

Merry Christmas!

I was hoping to sneak one more sale in before Christmas but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Those last minute holiday preparations have taken over. So I just want to say THANK YOU to all my friends out there! I can't believe how wonderful these last few years have been and I'm deeply appreciative for all of you and for all that you have done for me.

So to everyone out there the world over, I wish you a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

Larva Tools

Hello Folks,

It's shaping up to be a busy week. I probably won't be able to get to all that I have in the works but that means that I'll have stuff for after Christmas as well and into the New Year. ;)

Today I finally have the first wave of Larva Tools ready...The Atwood Larva Tool is a compact pocket Pry bar made of 5/32" thick S30v steel with raw bar finish. Includes a 1/4" hex drive opening and grippy scalloped edges. Small and simple, measures just shy of 3 inches in length and 3/4" in width. These are compact and heavy duty little guys. They run $45 plus shipping and the link is below:

First Wave is sold out, thank you! Will try to get them all mailed out this morning.

Copper Lanslides

Howdy Everyone,

Sorry for the endless delays. There's only one of me and way too much stuff to do this time of year. Anyway, I have some of the copper Lanslides done. This is a first wave and there are more running even as we speak so a bunch more to come over the next week along with aluminum bronze. These copper Lanslides are gorgeous, with that rich reddish color and I have put them on black cord to really highlight it. Of course they will patina fairly quickly and folks can either let them go naturally or polish periodically if desired. Beautiful stuff! Additionally, the 5 Flute design seems like a really nice one to play around with for making some batches of these using different metals and other materials. :)

A word on the recent whistles...I forgot to mention that since aluminum bronze and brass look so similar in a freshly turned piece I decided to add a pinstripe to the keyring hole area to distinguish the materials. The brass whistles lack the pinstripe, the bronze have it. Now, I added the pinstripe halfway into the batch so not all the bronze whistles have it but from here on out they all will. I also did a small run of slim titanium whistles with the pinstripe just because it looks so cool and those ti whistles will be forthcoming sometime in the next week. Anyhow, hope that adds some clarity to the situation.

So, thanks for bearing with me and I'm working as fast as I can without stressing myself out completely! :)

Gone! Good grief guys! :D

Bronze Whistles

Hi Folks,

Wow, it's been a crazy week between the flu and all the rest of it. Anyway, I'm back on track and getting stuff done in the shop this week finally. It's going to be Whistle Central around here for a few days with titanium coming next and then a big batch of brass. Then I have 5 Flute Lanslides coming in titanium and also some 5 flute beauties in copper which are running this afternoon. Bronze 5 flutes will run in a week or so, still waiting on the material which is why I had them run some copper ones while I had a little window of machine time.

Anyway, today I have the first wave of bronze Whistles done. When the rest of the bronze comes in next week they will run me some more of them but I have just three dozen at the moment. This is an aluminum bronze alloy and when freshly turned it doesn't look all that different from brass. However, it is more corrosion resistant, a little harder and it will develop a dark rich patina that is different than brass. I chose this material because the other grades that are available either are oil impregnated for use as bushing material or they have a high lead content for machinability so I thought this would be the best choice despite it's higher cost. You wouldn't really want the other grades in your mouth as a whistle.

So, bronze whistles will run $50 each plus shipping and the link is below:

Bronze are sold out, thank you!

Stainless Steel Whistles

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your well wishes, I'm feeling a lot better today. :)

I have some 303 stainless steel whistles done and ready to go. These are the slightly slimmer ones which all the whistles will be from here on out. They have a nice brushed satin finish on them and come with a keyring. These are $45 plus shipping. Once this wave is gone I still have another tray of stainless ones to put together so a few more will be coming. I will have the bronze ones done next week and then another wave of brass will closely follow as well.

Thanks so much folks, the ones I had finished are sold out!

Update

Happy Thursday Folks! Hope you all are feeling better than I am...I've been under the weather for a few days with a nasty cold but today I seem to be feeling a lot better. I'm hoping to get a full night's sleep tonight and be in even better shape coming into the weekend.

Anyway, I've been getting some work done this week. The Larva tools went out to heat treat on Tuesday so those will be back in two weeks and ready to go in time for Christmas.

I've been kicking butt on whistles this week as well as finishing up the stock I have here and am almost done with all of them. The next wave of whistles comes in from the shop tomorrow or Monday. I've got just a few bronze whistles right now but two more bars should be arriving today and so there are whole bunch more of those slated to be run. I believe they are just about done with the next brass ones so those will be coming on next week. I have more titanium whistles nearly completed downstairs and a few more will be run with the remaining ti stock I have at the shop.

Bronze Lanslides will get run next week right after the whistles are done. There are some mini Brewdrivers remaining from the batch earlier this year that are also going to get finished before the end of the year. G5 Prybabies might get squeezed in but more likely they may end up being a first week of January release. Dace are a long ways off, mid winter completion on those.

Pardon me while I go and cough some more... :(

More Brass Whistles

Hi All,

Sorry I've been so slow to get these done this week but I finally have another wave of brass whistles ready to go. These are slightly slimmer than the earlier ones and are a bit lighter in weight. I don't have one of the first wave left to compare but these weigh in at 25grams and exactly 1/2" in diameter whereas the previous run was a tad over 1/2". Just that little bit shaved off makes these a good bit lighter.

Anyway, the brass whistles are $45 plus shipping. I will have some more finished up early this coming week as well as more in other metals. And around the end of next week they will be turning a few more for me in brass so there will be even more on the way in case folks were looking for some stocking stuffers. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Sold out for now, thank you!
